On my new iPhone 3G (Firmware 5A347), if you change the alert sound to "Chime' instead of the default, it makes no sound at all when a text comes in. If you change it back to "Tritone (Default)", the sound is fine.

What is up with that? Anyone else having this problem? Can anyone else confirm?

I have the complete opposite problem... works fine with every other sound, but not with tri-tone... given that's the one i like:mad:

this seems to be a problem with everyones phone.

i wonder if its only 3g iphones or the old iphones who also upgraded to new firmware.

I've noticed, that after a while the sound just doesn't play anymore when I get a text.

Also, after a while, the "Lock" sound goes away when you "slide to unlock"..
And if you turn of the iPhone, then turn it back on it works again. It makes me mad!

pce :apple:

was just going to make a thread about this, having same problem as well... turning phone off and on seems to fix it for a while... When the problem happens to me phone only vibes and doesn't play sound, I have it set to do both.

ki245... do u have the first iphone or the new one. it seems everyone has this damn problem.

when will apple fix it with a new firmware, because this seems to be a big problem for everyone.

only with texting though.

I've had this same issue on and off. Sometimes if I restart my iPhone it will work again and play the correct sound. It seems to just come and go as it wishes. Hopefully there will be a fix for this soon.
