Hello, i used to have an iMac, it worked perfectly with my 'normal' no frills wireless router, made by thompson.

I am thinking of getting a mac mini, but in the tech specs it has some strange stuff as a footnote: http://www.apple.com/uk/macmini/specs.html

If you take a look at what it says about wireless, then look at footnote 3 at the bottom of the page it makes it sound like i would not be able to connect to my wireless router unless i had another computer or an airport device.

My question is simple! If i had a mac mini as the only computer in the house would i be able to hook it up wirelessly to a non airport router?

I know that macworld is only three days away but i thought i would ask now just in case apple don't change anything with the minis.

I would greatly appreciate your help on this matter as it has me completely stumped and to scared to buy one just in case!!!

Simple answer: yes.

The mini supports 802.11b/g out of the box, and will connect to any compatible WAP.

Thank you very much for the answer!

Just out of curiosity then... what on earth is all that stuff in the footnotes talking about then?!?!?

Thanks again for the answer it has put my mind at ease, if apple don't announce anything on next week then i will be sitting down in front of a mini pretty soon!

Best guess is the text was written ages ago twhen the wireless card was optional and nobody has noticed it reads oddly now!
Yeah - something like that, I guess. It doesn't read well at all. I certainly can't blame the OP for being confused! :)

My pleasure :D

Wish I knew - it really doesn't make a lot of sense.
