I recently created an iCloud e-mail address. My Apple ID is linked to my Gmail and now my iCloud e-mail shows as an alias for that account/login.

When I try to change my e-mail from Gmail to the new iCloud e-mail I always get a message saying "Your Apple ID cannot be updated at this time. Please try again later."

I also tried doing it from my iPhone, when I hit the minus sign on my Gmail account it says that I need to go to FaceTime and iMessage settings. I go there and disable them completely so there is no reachable address but that doesn't solve the issue.

I sometimes get a message pin my iPhone when I try to add that @icloud e-mail that "You can only add the @icloud e-mail that is already on file in your account"

I looked this up on Google and saw some people saying that Apple does not let you use a newly created @icloud e-mail until 30 days have passed! WTF!? Seriously?

I contacted Apple Support and they told me they cannot do anything from their side. They are just there to guide me on how to get information or what to do but have no access to anything that I cannot do from my end so basically they are just like guidance bots.

I think the rule is that you can’t change your Apple ID to a newly-created @icloud address until 30 days after it’s been created. I seem to recall having the same issue when I switched over my iCloud ID from gmail to @icloud address.

That's what I guessed. What a stupid restriction. Now God knows when I created this iCloud email. I'll keep trying.

The 30-day limit to change to an @icloud address is explicitly stated in this official Apple support document:

Based on your post history, it is likely you created your @icloud e-mail address somewhere between October 9-11 (just after your first Mac was delivered), about two weeks ago.

Try again in mid-November.
Thanks for the reminder. If I could rep you 3 times in a row I would for this reminder :D

I would think 30 days is to prevent someone from doing it to you after the steal phone or ID. Thieves probably don't want to wait 30 days to steal something
