I'm not sure (just getting the widget of iStat now), but it sounds as if it's going to take off! Crazy considering it cost £1400 and that it's like a jet engine.

Mine are:

45
55
43
43
40
37
57
39

I'm only running Azureus and Safari.

Right now..running Adium, iTunes, Transmission, Firefox, Address Book, Entourage.

CPU Core 1 and 2 = 49'C
Graphics Processor Temp Diode = 58'C
Memory Controller = 51'C

Surfing on New MBP cool as ever!

under (CPU) load:

CPU A: 78
GPU diode : 74
GPU heatsink: 61
heatsink a: 56
heatsink b: 46
enclosure bottom: 38
memory control..: 53
FUJITSU, etc.: 40

using SMC fan control with min @ 4000 rpm, at 2000s it was running in the 80s.

EDIT: the keyboard is not too hot to touch, if that helps. The strip above it, particularly the left-center section is probably not for touching.

If you set SMC fan control to default, does it change the fan speed as if the system normally would?

Hmm...mbp's been on for about an hour running firefox, ichat, and itunes. running on battery

CPU A: 37
GPU Diode: 43
GPU Heatsink: 38
Heatsink A: 36
Heatsink B: 30
Enclosure Bottom: 26
Memory Controller: 28
Fujitsu MHW21...: 27

Wow...that's cold. Do you have your fans running high or one of those cooling pads or is it winter in your room ;)

it should be dead quiet at those temps

Not really. The fans are (for some reason) controlled by the Memory Controller's temperature. While it shouldn't be really loud, I'd imagine that the fans are going over 2000RPM.

Adamo: Have you used any fan control software? SMCFanControl? Fan Control sysprefs panel?

I am completely paranoid about the heat issue and keep everything in the 38-48 degree C. range at all times. smc fan control b'tween 2500 and 3500rpm depending on what's running. As well, i keep a teeny little fan pointed at the back vent on particularly warm days. Don't care what the specs say, processors run better at cooler temps(from what i hear) and if i can keep the surrounding components as cool as possible, i figure it can't hurt overall longevity.

the OP's temps are fine, its the second person im concerned about, however the fact that its controled by the memory controler makes sense, his is awfully hot 58c??

my current temps are
54
59
53
53
41
32
50
36

im sitting about a ft away from it, and i can hear my DVR (about 4' away) over the laptop i can only hear the laptop if i put my ear inches away from the case

you keep WHAT cool to 38-48?

cant be the CPU thats impossible unless you're sitting in a room thats about 30f

i think the lowest ive ever seen mine is 48c
