Other What's with all the "Waiting..." words under my app tiles?

Love how I can set up a new iPhone from my old one. So much nicer than typing in a lengthy WiFi password. Genius.
So I did that.

Then, a restore of 238gb from my old almost full 256gb iPhone X iTunes backed up earlier this afternoon.
Took ~ 35 minutes.

Now I want to use it. Things to do. Plane to catch.

What's with all the "Waiting..." words under almost all of my app tiles?
I thought the purpose of Restore was so that it would be restore everything just like my old one.

Your phone only downloads a few apps at a time. The rest are "waiting". They'll update when you're on Wi-Fi.

The restore only restores critical phone data then it places the Apps in their original locations and redownloads all of them.

Oh. Darn.

That means I need to re-download all my data sets, right?

I'm sure I'm going to forget one that I need till I'm logged on over sloggy slow hotel WiFi.

Depends on the app. I find most of my apps don't use a ton of my phone space to manage data.

And at least for me... downloading some of the apps (garageband for example) is taking *forever* and holding up everything else.
Launch day so the app store is getting pounded.

Yeah, I set up at the store and the network was completely overwhelmed. I wound up finishing the setup at home.

Tap one to move it up in priority. If that doesn't work, restart your device.

So what this means is:
Even though I click a word labeled "Backup" when in iTunes, I don't really have a complete backup.

Yep. You have a backup of photos etc and a basically a blueprint of what apps the phone needs to download. Tapping on a waiting app does prioritize it for download and install though.
