Canada is my city
If there's one thing that bugs me so much I want to blow my entire computer off, it's the fact that on literally everywhere you go, on Youtube, Twitter, other tech forums, there are countless people that go around instigating arguments regarding Apple and start spreading false hate lies. And I know that these people aren't just trolls, sometimes very intelligent people post those things.

I mean, I just don't understand this. I'm not a fanboy by any means, yet because of the haters, I start to feel like anyone complaining about anything Apple is a hater. Every time, somebody is going to call me a fanboy, say that the MB is a "$2000 facebook machine", say pointless ******** regarding Apple, etc. It's just that it has gotten to the point where I am genuinely confused what is happening. Is it false lies spread by news sites? Are those people brainwashed or what? Or are they just ignorant? On every other controversial and hateful topic like MLP for example, if there's a hater, there's someone who's going to call out on them and bring a positive argument. I'm very, very confused right now and if you have any thoughts regarding that, please tell me what you think (politely!).

Garirry (and yes, this is a serious thread)

I'm on some forums that if you ask a question, lots of people just throw the "get a Mac" card at you, which is really a nasty thing to do. Which is one thing.

Another is the price point. But I don't know, if you had a $1,000-3,000 Windows laptop, would people still be saying the same things? I've never had Windows based laptops that weren't in that price point. The Dell I have was $3,500 with taxes.

It goes both ways.

It's just human nature. There are many elements to this. I'll limit myself to one.

For the sake of discussion, let's call it The Mass Delusion Myth (or The Emperor's New Clothes Rides Again) - if a large number of people believe in/like something and I do not, they all must be wrong, and there is honor in unmasking the delusion. "Thank you, little boy, for showing me the error of my ways!"

This is a very widespread trait. We need to look within ourselves, and recognize that we, too, exhibit this behavior in regard to other matters.

It's not just you. It's a real thing. It's super hip to hate Apple right now, haters have to be louder than ever. It's kind of the same thing now as how I can go to any comments section anywhere and count on finding some racism in maybe 15 posts max, it's like clockwork.

Yeah a lot of ignorant deluded Apple haters. But Apple's self-smugness and appetite for penny-pinching doesn't exactly dispel their arguments. Either way, people who say that stuff don't want a reasoned argument - and if you engage in an argument, neither party will come out of it any wiser or smarter, only more frustrated.

So I tend to keep out of it, try not to take the bait, and just argue about Apple stuff on this site. :)

Another age-old symptom as partially described by Gustave Le Bon --
....The influence of repetition on crowds is comprehensible when the power is seen which it exercises on the most enlightened minds. This power is due to the fact that the repeated statement is embedded in the long run in those profound regions of our unconscious selves in which the motives of our actions are forged. At the end of a certain time we have forgotten who is the author of the repeated assertion, and we finish by believing it.
When an affirmation has been sufficiently repeated and there is unanimity in this repetition . . . what is called a current of opinion is formed and the powerful mechanism of contagion intervenes. Ideas, sentiments, emotions, and beliefs possess in crowds a contagious power as intense as that of microbes....

I'm agreeing with the general "if there's a _______, there's going to be scathing sarcasm and hate for it" perspective.

I lived in Austin in the early 80s and traveled around a bit - I could not believe how much raging, hellfire-hot hate there was between Ford pickup and Chevy pickup owners, let alone the chasm of disdain between the fans of the Longhorns-Aggies football teams.

Continuing on with the sports theme - because it's easy! - I'm a NYer. My Yankees haven't been that good lately and my friend from Boston reminds me of that from time to time. Last month he told me about the Yankees' not being so great - I asked him to count the number of rings the BoSox have and he held up 8 fingers - I said something like "let me think", and then offered "wait, I don't have enough fingers and toes to count how many rings the Yanks have". I haven't heard him be a smartazz since. I just enjoyed the World Series because it's baseball and they're playing.

For every hater/loser on the web crashing down on Apple there's likely tens of millions of iPhone and Mac users that are out having drinks with friends and taking selfies, surfing the web, and doing some design work on their Apple devices that both don't care and are completely oblivious to all of it because it really doesn't matter. And, maybe because deep, down inside they know that the haters are pretty much losers and need to feel something besides self-loathing, and just ignore them? Just saying. ;) Enjoy your Mac and iPhone experience. I do.

Correct... if u ask this on a Mac forum, then people will favor macs and only favor macs vs windows machines... u won't get those reposes unless u visit a MS forum or other non-Apple ..

I think Apple haters just jump immediately to price as its plain site. however when they then go through the specs, u see they didn't really plan ahead..

PC Window ultabooks as thin as a MBA with just as good display, trackpad, keyboard as well is all one 'key' thing it all lacks... U either get a good display over a track pad which wobbles at certain presses... keyboard feels flimsy compared to Apple to cut corners, because they also want to make it cheap.. The same thing PC's do for cheap power supplies, over everything else for example. and of course, the design.

when u factor it all in. the equivalent is just about $200 or so less ..... so not exactly THAT cheap either..

Gaming laptops are about the same price or $500 less.. but still expensive..

First of, I can only share my opinions on the topic and the reasons I'm not a very big Apple fan anymore.

Everything will always have its share of haters, or at least people who just don't like it for whatever reason. However, for me, these past few years Apple have really shown their true colours. High prices, weak specs, buggy software and a mentality that making everything thinner will make it better and more desirable. Not to mention their lousy software support that ditches legacy software wayyy too soon. As someone who bought a lot of Apple products in the 2000 decade, a decade later and I feel more burned by Apple than supported by them. Unless you have the cash to constantly keep upgrading as soon as Apple deems it necessary, they throw you in the 'unsupported' ditch as fast as they can.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is annoyed at Apple for this and I think with their popularity ever increasing, more and more people are beginning to realize that buying Apple can turn into a constant cashectomy. I literally do not see the advantage in buying Apple anymore. The competition is cheaper and, um, at least in my mind, better.

unfortunately, by the same token, u would only say that IF u get new Apple gear too, which is 90% of the Apple users or so...

No one if forcing anyone to get Apple products..

However, i do have my own personal nitch with how Apple does things and have improved to *their* advantage only, particularly with marketing how they force u to use the latest iTunes and iOS just to sync, then they say "look how many users upgraded" as though they think its all voluntary .... Its not... because it u update one, u must update the other otherwise u can't sync anymore... That's not at users discretion .. by any means.. its just how apple locks u in.

That's probably one major valid point. no one else does.

Is it any different then those folks here who hate MS, we frequently see them toss around the term Windoze and M$. For some this is close to a religious holy war and they chose a side. I consider myself an Apple fan, but yet that doesn't mean I will blindly pick their products. I usually try to vet out what works best for my needs.

I have an iMac but ever-increasingly dislike Apple. I believe that Mac OS is the best OS available and the hardware is the best looking and functioning I have ever used in computers. I don't like their closed shop tactics, how I can't use my iMac as a monitor. I don't like their lack of support for games. I don't like how they are increasingly less user serviceable, glued together and, yes, closed shop. I'm not interested in their other products. Can't imagine going back to Windows though.

Not really, but i'm just saying some users will just pick Mac's based on the design and/or uses and still expect them to do what Windows can at every stage.

That's not how it is.

LOL I just came from the M$ thread!

I see it as jealousy

Apple users that hate MS, hate MS as they have 90% global market share for desktops/laptops.
MS users who hate Apple is due to the hype and profit Apple makes, although I have yet to see a hate post about Mac PC's, they seem more immune.

Windows Phone doesnt get any hate as its small, so its not a threat to ones pride, so no jealousy.

My opinion

It' s the nature of the beast these days.
Allowing every idiot and his mom access to a keyboard provides commentary-sections online that is capable of draining any hope one might have had for humanity and our future:)

People tend to express extreme views on the Internet.
I started using Apple products some years ago. It was a long process. I adored the design and the functionality but could not justify the price. I used high-end Microsoft laptops and the best phones available in those times. Until I got sick and tired of my then cell and ordered an iPhone 3G. It was my first smartphone that opened a door to a different, better world from the prospective of a user. The eco-system of Android has never become my own while using it for 2 years, though I acknowledged all of its advantages to iOS. Now, I use an iPhone again, third in a row. It meets my essential needs providing the security and user experience I need.
I have never been a fan of Windows. It was more of a necessity when I started using this OS some decades ago. I still use it, but can't forget the sleepless nights over the years when I had to solve numerous problems caused by its different versions.
OS X with all its flaws is a revelation for me, though I have to admit that my pattern of use changed significantly.
What concerns Apple in general. I follow the same practice as Mike. I don't buy blindly their products. Lately, there are some that I consider to be a misconception and not thoroughly thought out. Sometimes I feel that the introduction to the market of new products lately is astonishing for a Company with such experience.

It is interesting. For the most part it's people just mouthing what they've heard others say, since they are almost always speaking from a total lack of experience with any Apple product. However, the level of hate is interesting. I think that it has its roots in Christianity. Protestants challenged the Catholics reverence for beauty. And so there are a lot of people who think that if something is beautiful it must be a cover to fool those easily taken in. There is also the idea that Apple claims to be revolutionary, and there's one thing Christians don't like and that's any claims to transcendence. So, other companies can get away with producing garbage partly because they make no claim to being the best, but because Apple has the temerity to claim they are the best, they invite criticism for any flaw whatever. I have to admit that I was an Apple hater until one day I just couldn't take the mediocrity of Windows PC's. So, I know the syndrome. It's fascinating. It probably helps Apple sell a lot more stuff and creates even stronger brand loyalty, because anyone that uses their stuff knows that the hate is something weird and not based on anything rational.

You've made some pretty tenuous connections in that post.

its like anything..

Apple has a "unique" and "different" approach to make users believe its the right thing to do.. and they refuse to believe any other..
