Have you tried tilting it the other way where the home button on the right side instead? I feel maybe your right thumb might be blocking the sensor near the front camera.

It looks like it’s acting like it would on phone call mode and the proximity sensor is blanking the screen every time you move your hand over it.

Thanks Gonzo, I think you're right. Question is why it started acting up recently and how to fix it.

@Newtons Apple , this happens with multiple apps, including some apple ones. Seems like the problem is systemic and not isolated to specific app.

I may be taking my phone in to get the battery replaced anyways - seems like it been draining pretty fast the past few months. Wonder if that has anything to do with it. (Battery Health beta says my battery is fine, but I'm not sure how much I trust that).

One thing to try is do a backup then do a full reset and update and see if that fixes it.
