I wish I could make this a poll, I think it has been posted before, but probably not the most current versions.

I'm replacing my HD, and doing a clean install. I currently have Quicktime, WMP, VLC, and MPlayer installed with VLC and MPlayer probably not being up to date.

Obviously I cant get away from Quicktime, although I find it pretty much useless. Whenever I download some file, OSX tries to use Quicktime and I always have to open it with something else, annoying extra steps.

Is anyone using just one main application for video? On Windows, my WMP9 plays everything, except QT (and maybe I haxed it to do Real also). It don't matter if I have WMV, Divx, Xvid, or anything else it's all in one place. I've tried some libs that are supposed to make QT play other things but they hardly ever work correctly, and it doesn't play full screen unless you shell out more cash.

Anyone try out that new Real Client?

Am I doing this wrong, or do I need 4 clients? What's your favorite?

Yeah, I use VLC for nearly everything, and have set it to open my videos by default. Also, if you upgrade to Quicktime Pro ($29), it seems to open a wider variety of formats.

Hint, to change the default program: click on a video file with a .mpg extension, for example, go to File...Get Info, select Open With VLC, and then hit Change All.

I guess I expected some polar discussion. So basically VLC or VLC. And yet I find myself not using VLC. It seems to lag when I watch highres Divx rips.
