Started yesterday morning with 4387 (new out of the box), after Apple recommended "conditioning" I now have 4651 of the 4680 total capacity.

Fully charge it to 100%, then leave on the charger for a min 2 hours after hitting 100%.

Then fully discharge until it shuts down, leave unplugged for 5+ hours.

Rinse and repeat. I'm on the 2nd go and it's made a difference for sure. The odd thing for me was Coconut battery meter shows the battery only 1 cycle, but it's 11 weeks old, which explains why the battery was completely dead out of the box to the point it wouldn't even boot up until I plugged in it for about 15 mins.

Point being, run the "calibration" it can change your max capacity.

Mine is only showing 4566 mah of 4680 and a max capacity of 97% with 7 cycles. I did a calibration and that's all I got. Should I take it back to apple is is this normal?

Just to show how much this varies, yesterday I was at 4442 and today it shows 4516. I'm at 47 cycles.

In the calibration instructions above. Step 5 says let it sleep for 5 hours or turn off the computer when it has run down! My question is, do you have to also leave it turned off for 5 hours or was that just necessary for its sleep mode to run out! Thanks

Yes, you have to leave it off for 5+ hours, whether it sleeps or shuts down.
