What kind of graphics are you into and what's your setup for both hardware and software?

I do print design with a first generation MacBook, CS3, and an HP LaserJet B&W tabloid printer.

I want to buy a cheap tabloid color inkjet eventually.

I hope you've maxed out your RAM!

I use iMac 2.8 w/ 4 GB RAM & CS3 for most of my design work, but for mobility, I use an aluminum Macbook (used to use a Pro, but the Macbook is a little easier on the shoulder, and I LOVE the glass trackpad). I also use Aperture for my photography - especially on the MacBook.

The 24" screen on the iMac is gorgeous, and surprisingly pretty good for print work. I wish it weren't glossy, but one can't have everything!

Someday I'd like to get a Mac Pro with something like 32 GB RAM, that way I can run Windows XP, Vista, OS X, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Aperture, Pages, Safari, FireFox, iTunes (gotta have the 'tunes!), Mail and iChat all running speedily at the same time. (Sometimes I also open up GarageBand and Final Cut Express, when I'm working on multimedia projects).

FYI: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/441213/

granted that thread started in Feb so people may have changed their stuff by now :) our studio does 90% print design with some motion graphics and occasional video work. this is my post from that thread with a couple of additions, nothing has changed other than a new iPhone and a couple of TB of external drives:

i do a little web design using my half dead core duo 20" imac. I'm saving for a new macbook and a 24", but i haven't had the time to do any sites thanks to school.

What kind of graphics are you into?
Mainly interaction design now days, and more recently user-product interaction.

What's your setup for both hardware...
I've always maintained a modest core hardware arrangement, whenever I've needed additional processing power, the most cost effective way is to just lease it and bill it.

• Apple MacBook Pro
• Apple Cinema Display
• Apple Aluminum Keyboard (Wired)
• Apple Mouse (Wired)
• Western Digital Studio Edition II's

And software?
And my software requirements have slimmed even more since the last thread, too.

• Adobe CS4 (Acrobat, After Effects, Flash, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) handle the core creative work.
• Adobe Director 11 (still the best rapid prototyping tool)
• Coda & MAMP
• Processing/Wiring and Arduino

Misc software such as Linotype FontExplorer X, Microsoft Office 2008 and Roxio Toast 9 Titanium also have a role in my workflow. LEGO's Digital Designer and Google Earth fill any playtime.

Production and layout (six 500-page annual cruising guides).

What's your setup for both hardware and software?

(2) 24" iMacs
(2) 2.8 GHz Octo Mac Pros with 30" cinema displays
(1) 17" MBP
(1) 17" iMac
(1) Xerox Phaser Printer
(1) X-Serve Octo

And a bunch of other stuff.

We use the Creative Suite to do everything.
