Hi guys ,
Been trying to figure out how to transfer my WhatsApp history from iPhone to android. Every time I restore from whatsapp it gives me the option to restore from an old backup on my google drive but not my current history backed up on mine iPhone. Anybody have a solution ?

Thanks in advance !

In short - you can't, officially. Whatsapp doesn't support it but there are several 3rd-party apps that seem to do it if you do a quick Google search.

I believe you can back up to your gmail drive, so then when you activate whatsapp on the new device, restore from the same gmail account. try that. because its backed up on gmail cloud, android/ios device shouldn't matter as long as you use same gmail.

@chagla have you actually tried or researched this? Whatsapp's site only explains the backup process on iPhone for backing up to iCloud, no other way. Whatsapp even builds in the iCloud backup function directly into the iOS app. That backup can not be restored to Android...

WhatsApp FAQ - Restoring your chat history

If you Google "restore iOS Whatsapp to Android" there isn't a SINGLE RESULT directly from Whatsapp on the first page of results, this tells me it isn't as simple as just restoring from Google Drive as can be done when going Android to Android.

Just sack the history off and start afresh. I always do with a new phone and although slightly disturbing you forget about it all....kinda instantly. Drain the swamp!

A one-shot transfer is not possible. Many apps that claim to do so can’t, so careful before you pay to something or somebody. WhatsApp on iOS only backs up to iCloud, while WhatsApp on Android only does local and Google drive backups.

One way is to export each chat individually, so at least you have a record of those chats. This doesn’t import those chats into Android, only allows you to have a readable backup.

Long story short, you have to start anew. This is why I have two separate accounts for Android and iOS, esch stays at their respective platforms.

If jumping platforms is your thing, try switching messaging platforms to things like Telegram or Facebook Messenger. Those are cloud based and totally platform agnostic.

Actually, that app I've posted above transfers everything .

Assuming it works, it requires one to use unencrypted iTunes backup and have a rooted Android phone.

Making one unencrypted backup won't kill you, and you don't need to be rooted. At all.
