I get a whole lot of messages in Whatsapp groups. Every one of them get their own individual notifications. Is there a way to show all messages that belong to a group under one??

In android its grouped automatically so you don’t get a long list of notifications from one Whatsapp group

Or is it the way iOS works??

As far as I know, you can't group notifications on your iPhone. I may be wrong about that, but a lot of people (especially on the iPhone subreddit) complain about getting tons of individual notifications all from the same app.

I don’t like that group business on Android because you can’t see individual notifications and choose to respond to them from the lock screen.

In android it still gets group messages notifications. But they are all grouped together So you don’t see 100 messages. Only see one for one group but can be expanded by clicking on the group. So nothing like that in iOS??

Old notifications will drop off and be moved down to "earlier today" even older notifications will be filed under "yesterday" or the day of the week they were received.

Yes. I see that
But when I woke up this morning I’ve about 50 messages from 2 groups. Would be nicer to see only 2 groups. And then tho ability to expand. This seems like something to hat needs to be done. Both windows and android OS has this feature. I simply can’t turn the notifications off for the group either as I want to see them.

Whilst on the issue of WhatsApp I wonder if some one could help me out? I don’t have the iCloud backup for WhatsApp and I’ve allowed all the pics/vids I get sent to be automatically saved to the camera roll. However, when I delete a WhatsApp pic/vid from the camera roll it still remains on the actual WhatsApp chat thread, I have no idea where this is being stored as I’ve already deleted that image/video front he camera roll on the device.

Can anyone help with this? This was a lot more straightforward on my Note 8!

Its saved on the WhatsApp server. You deleting something locally doesn’t mean it should get deleted from the other person’s device as well.

I don't believe that is what @OP is asking. @OP wants to remove the images from the local chat thread stored on their device.

How do you save chat threads locally?! one can just save a copy of the media files on their device, as far as I’m aware of.

What I mean is that my phone is set to save any WhatsApp photos/vids straight to the camera roll. However when I delete these from the camera roll they still remain on the actual chat thread?! I can’t figure out where else they would be being stored since my WhatsApp chats aren’t backed up to the iCloud.

On my note 8 when I deleted the pics/vids from my gallery they also disappeared from the chat thread as well which is what I want!

Right, so yeah I was right in understanding what is happening there. They’re just on WhatsApp server.

Not every feature in every apps work similarly on iOS and Android. They’re different platforms and the implementation methods are different as per guidelines.

Finally managed after much investigating how to get rid of the media from WhatsApp!

You have to go into a chat thread, click on a photo/vid then that brings up a ‘all media’ tab in the right corner. By clicking that it takes you into all the media for that chat and you can then delete from there! But you have to do this for every individual chat thread which is a bit of a pain.

Hope this helps anyone who’s encountering the same problem!

I think group notifications is coming.

On my iPhone X I get notifications grouped together for group chats, however as soon as I look at the phone within the FaceID scan then it expands them all. So for example I had 26 messages overnight in a work group chat. When I picked the phone up this morning I had one notification on the screen with the group title. When I then looked at the screen these all expanded to show each individual message and it's sender. I don't know if this is iPhone X specific or not.

Hopefully the function will eventually arrive to keep them grouped.

I have all notification previews to only show when the phone is unlocked, hence why it expands when I look at it.

Example here with iMessage.

When did you get grouped notifications?
On my iPhone X when I work up this morning all I saw was about 50 messages from one group individually splashed for 2/3 pages. Would love to see what you’ve shown in the screenshot

I've had them for a while. I'm on the beta but fairly sure it was before 11.3.

Another way -

Open WhatsApp - Settings - Data and Storage Usage. Select a chat - Click manage. You will then see a list of all your chats.

You still have to go into each individual one but it allows you to delete all text, photos, GIF's, videos, voice messages & documents. Either all together or as individual categories (i.e. all videos etc)

In iOS it works differently as WhatsApp and the Photos app are two separate entities with their own media databases. With turning the setting ON in WhatsApp to allow automatic copying to your camera roll, it does exactly that: it makes a copy of the image or video from the WhatsApp app to the Photos app. So if you want to delete something, you have to delete it in two places. Also, when you are in a chat, you can click the header and then Media, Links and Docs and there you can find and delete the images and videos for that specific chat. Or like 0014 mentioned, you can also delete all at once.

For me this is actually something I really dislike about Android. Literally everything (even stupid screenshots or memes that people send) gets shown in your Photos app. I personally have it turned off for WhatsApp to automatically put images in my Camera Roll. I only want images or videos in my Camera Roll that I actually like or want saved.

Nothing is stored on WhatsApp's servers. Everything is stored locally or in iCloud (if you've set it up to backup your chats). WhatsApp servers are just there to relay the messages from your device to other people, but nothing gets stored in the process.

The main reason why we don't have a proper WhatsApp for iPad is because your chat history and photos/videos are on your phone only. The way WhatsApp Web works is that it literally streams your local phone's chats to the browser. On the one hand it's very annoying, but on the other it's saver to not have all that info stored on their servers.

This is absolutely not true.

So you know better how WhatsApp works than WhatsApp? https://faq.whatsapp.com/en/iphone/20888066/?category=5245251

WhatsApp chat histories aren't stored on our servers; we cannot retrieve any deleted messages for you. You can use our iCloud backup feature to back up and restore your chat history.

Backup is not the same thing. WhatsApp can’t retrieve specific data because they use end to end encryption but that doesn’t mean their servers aren’t involved in the equation.

Everything goes through their servers and they optimise the load based on specific events.
