I have read on numerous sites that Bluetooth transfer will be available. If this is the case will we be able to transfer songs from one phone to another?

Is there any idea on when 3.1 is coming out?

As a surprise do you think they will add more voice commands to the 3GS such as date and time, play an indervidual song (which has the same name as the album), abilty to open apps by voice command (ones that are on the 5th page).

lol can I also ask how i can get Autofil to work in Safari?

Thanks.

Is everyone expecting 3.1 on the 25th or just the mms update. From my understanding MMS has nothing to do with 3.1

Expected on the 25th.

Why do you think that? Because of MMS? No that would be a carrier update which is a separate file and is a separate update that will be done later.

3.1 can be released then on the 25th you can click update in iTunes which you will then be told there is a update to your carrier files.

MMS is already part of the 3.0 update the carrier file is what unlocks and enables it in the OS.

Then why do you have an iPhone?

Also do you really think another company would allow you to do this as well?

I have an iphone because its an awesome tool, that does the job very well. Apple as a company on the other hand suck arse.

And do we think another company would allow you to transfer files between devices using bluetooth? err yes, pretty much every other company i can think of excluding Microsoft..

Android phones didn't have BT file transfer as an option from the beginning, if I'm not mistaking, and Google doesn't even have an iTunes like music store.
The iPhone is pretty much one of the last phones for one to buy if you need BT file transfers and custom ringtones on the go, adobe flash etc. And I'm quite positive it doesn't make Apple unsuccessful or a sucky company. There still is iBluetooth for jailbroken pre 3.0 iphones (2g and 3g of course). Oh, and I'm not sure the Palm Pre has BT file transfer as a standard either.

I suppose you misread the rumors about 3.1 or news regarding the betas. The news about BT are voice control related, if I'm not mistaking. And no, I believe there will be no other commands right away, maybe with future firmwares, quite expectable. And 3.1 could be available as soon as tomorrow, due to the iPod event, iTunes 9 as well, I guess. Autofill- go to safari under settings, and enable it.

1) I have not seen anyone with access to the 3.1 beta saying that there will be bluetooth transfer.

2) Highly doubtful. Why would Apple want to do that?

Fair points, I'm coming from a background of having Nokia / Sony Erricson / Blackberry phones which have all been able to transfer files easily with BT. I didn't realise the new players were also not providing this functionality, which is pretty lame to say the least.

doubt most of that will happen.. Bluetooth file transfer is kinda becoming dead.. i mean.. on iphones.. just send the pic to my email u know? if u cant send the pic to my email and only can transfer u must have a crappy phone with a sucky camera.. then i dont want that picture anyway.. also no need for other peoples sucky ringtones when i make my ringtones HIGH QUALITY in itunes for FREE! (if u dont know how to do that... Youtube is your best friend).. all i wish they add is that you can give different people different sms ringtones.. other than that.. mms. and the iphone is perfect..

to use autofill.. go to settings.. then go to safari... the settings for that are in there

We were discussing the transfer of songs via BT, which you can't do via email.

you can of course not agree with me on this but smartphones were once all about numbers of functions and options, maybe Palm/RIM have always been different since being more Business oriented. And most smartphones still keep that trend alive: Nokia/Samsung, even SE etc.
Apple was probably one of the first to aim, maybe, at businessmen but also at consumers since the main object is to sell and succeed. In the mean time, Apple offered quite a few features, the only entertaining part was probably the iPod and the touch gestures at first.
BT is simply competing with the iTunes store and Record Companies, it would be dumb for Apple to change in this, unless it means selling mostly nothing, which is not the case.
More than lame, I suppose it's just caring about eventual conflicts and not necessarily wanting to offer everything.
BTW BT used to be one of the sensible things about Symbian or Nokias in general. Google it. Not having a regular standard also means being safer and protecting yourself from eventual lawsuits. It's just my opinion on the matter though.

same reason, I suppose
I'd choose to make a simple product that has limits and is successful anyway, than just put everything together like others used to and keep doing, upping the MPx numbers, pixels, flashes, options, not giving squat about the product itself.
Apple's always been about different choices, whether you like it or consider it sucking:)

what is the best feature we get in 3.1?

A new version number under Settings>General>About
seriously though, not that big of a deal, might solve some bugs, hopefully some reception/battery related stuff some suffer from. Voice commands through BT and Apps that have to do with the compass, video. Trimming video should save two versions and not overwrite the original. Pretty much it, I'm afraid.

Fair, I have seen on a few sites that they are reporting BT file transfer and Bluetooth voice also. Do they always say battery improvements in all SW updates...my battery is beyond crap.

Good point - a feature like that would surely get leaked by someone running a beta version of 3.1. The fact that it hasn't leaked, and the fact that Apple has taken several measures over the years to prevent sharing of music, means it most likely isn't going to happen.
