Still over two weeks still to wait
As the 1.86GHz benchmarks were less than 10% faster than the 1.6GHz on the old MBAs, I decided to save some money and heat.
2nd gen Air on Ebay.
2nd gen Air on Ebay.
you have to be careful. I saw one listing that says "NEW MODEL!"
But it's not (PATA drive)
Since they look the same it's tough. But i would think the new box is going to be different so until you see that...
I'm bit worried that there's going to be some deception as the value of the first model is dropping drastically.
Yes, the box looks like it too has gone from black to white:
Well I took the Macbook back I bought on the day of release and swapped it out for the Pro...They didn't charge a restocking fee since I upgraded...Now I don't know if I should wait for the new Air to come and compare them, or just open the Pro...I couldn't stand the screen on the new Aluminum Macbook regular...
If you could not stand the screen on the Alu MacBook then you wont stand the screen on the MBP they have the same glossy-ness, the only difference is the resolution and size.
I was in the same situation as you yesterday came very close to get a Pro, he went to the back to bring it up only to realize they had just run out of stock, but I know realize I wont see a big performance upgrade over my current MBP and I dont think I would enjoy the screen.
I think I am going to go for the 1.86 Air with the standard HD because I can always upgrade it later.
It was the washout and black levels that I couldn't stand on the Macbook. I am pretty confident the Pro or 2nd Gen Air won't have these problems...I am tempted to open the MBP and compare it to the 1st Gen Air I have, which I am selling by the way if anyone is interested, but $250 is alot to test drive it for 14 days...
Did you calibrate the LED Screen, make sure you do that because each screen is different.
From what I have read the Air has a much better screen than the MB, I was hearing even twice as good. What are you planning to do with the laptop, will it involve photos or video editing? It all really depends on what you will use it for.
Yes, the box looks like it too has gone from black to white:
I calibrated it. I have an X-rite i1Display and software that I use to calibrate my screens. It doesn't help the black levels...I wish it did. I mainly use my existing MBA to browse the Internet, stream movies/TV with my Slingbox, watch movies, listen to music through iTunes, do some document creation and some gaming. For the money it seems like the Pro is a better deal, but I am worried about the size and weight coming from the Air.
i support apple for using a white package. black solid package maybe cool, but it's bad for the environment. apple need a lot of black ink for printing those solid black boxes.
