Sorry about the dummy question, it is my first experience with OS X Beta.
When final release is launched and beta is done do we need to fresh install everything or an App Store update will "convert" the beta to the official version?

Well Apple releases the updates in the .app version, and those will reset the beta. I would recommend erasing and starting as new because betas tend to corrupt preferences and other data and could cause other issues with OS X.

Duff-Man says...the beta will update to the "final" released version just fine in *most* cases. If you have issues, then yes, do a fresh start.

Having said that, I sure hope you are using the beta on some separate drive or partition where this whole discussion is academic, or else you are just asking for making it a more difficult migration....oh yeah!

I would say doing a straight upgrade is perfectly fine, but I also have a MacBook Pro as a backup, so it's fairly easy to throw caution to the wind.

I ran the Yosemite betas and on my main Mac and just updated to the final shipping version when it was available. I had zero problems. With El Capitan, I also installed it over my existing install on my iMac. Until the Beta 5 version, it was a real mess. But it's running smooth now, and I'll be installing the final El Capitan version when it's available without wiping the drive and starting over.

There was a time in the past when I wouldn't consider a major upgrade without doing a clean install. Now, I just keep the installation of frivolous software to a minimum to avoid problems.
