Okay I'm not really obsessive, but then again...

Thinking I'll be able to go back iPad only for my main computing device soon, as I've finally found an app to customize photo books thanks to someone here on the forums! I'm not 100% positive I'm gonna give up the iMac, but I am gonna be at a place where I CAN.

Does it bother anyone else that the chargers aren't the same on their devices?

On the one hand, I'm gonna want a pro as my main device since I'm gonna be giving up a desktop screen, but OTOH, I have an SE2 and a mini 5, and the obsessive part of me wants my iPad to use the same charging devices, cords, and accessories to keep life simple.

How ridiculous is that? Don't bother sparing my feelings (as if anyone here would anyway). ;-p

Switching to USB-C didn't provide any benefit for me (I realize that's not the case for many others). It is a minor annoyance having to travel with more accessories. With that being said I absolutely love my iPad Pro with Face ID and would never give it up.

I don‘t love carrying around different cables as well, but I’m also the type to always carry around a charging brick and cable for each device I carry or have whenever I travel. So, whether or not it’s USB-C or Lightning, I’ll have one cable for every device anyway.

But perhaps there are a couple solutions for you:
1) There are small converters which can change your USB-C into Lightning ends. That way, you can just carry one charging brick and wire and just add the adapter when needed.
2) Another option would be to invest in a magnetic MagSafe-like charger. There are threads discussing this option in the iPad Accessories forum.

Just two ideas off the top of my head.

I have a Surface Pro 6, iPhone XR, IPP 11", an older 5th gen iPad and Airpod Pro's. I ended up getting a couple of USB-C to Lightning cables to reduce the number of charging bricks and use wireless charging.

For on the go, I use a combination of things to simplify - multi-port charging bricks, cables with swappable adapters, etc. I won't be buying another Lightning device in the future - I will use charge/data port form as a discriminator in my choosing a new device.

If we don't spare your feelings, it's not out any malice... but more like a kid sister. :)

As you know, I have so many different devices, and when I travel, I take two of these with me...

$12 for a pair.

I'm fine with carrying around two cables, but hopefully the iPhone will go full USB-C.

I have several of these cables because I charge devices in several locations. I have one on my desk that I use to charge my iPP 11, my Mini 5, and my iPhone 6S Plus (all at the same time sometimes). I share sracer’s recommendation.

It's a minor annoyance. That said, there are a bunch of 3rd party accessories to make things easier. There usually aren't enough wall sockets in most places so I tend to sacrifice fast charging for more ports.

Our last overseas trip, we had 2 iPhones (US and local SIM) and 1 iPad each, a few powerbanks, a Kindle, and a dedicated hotspot.

Adapter:
2x 6-port Charger

Cables:
6x 6ft USB-A to Lightning

2x short MicroUSB (came with the powerbank)

3x 3ft 3-in-1 cable for flexibility

P.S. Yep, we've got a ton of Anker adapters and cables. :p

I would like ideally one type of charger for all of my devices or at least to carry around as less chargers as possible but that being said I accept the in between period. I like USB C as it allows faster charging so I am for the devices going to it. However I accept the fact that it will take a while for me to have only USB C devices.

I too carry the multi-port type cables for charging. Just be aware that some are only for charging and do not support data transfer. I think the Anker brand one that I have did allow me to do some data transfer to my Android phone but another off brand 3-in-1 cable did not.

I love cables lol . . its a disease. I’m the kind of guy you want to be traveling with, because I come prepared to share when friends/family need a charger, cable or USB battery. My family thinks of me as a walking Radio Shack.

iPP comes with a USB-C brick, with its USB-C to USB-C cable. Buy a USB-C to lightning cable and you’re done. Plus you have the advantage of quicker charging.

I'd save money on the cable and get the following instead:

Good option. I‘m just a little weary of using 3rd party chargers, although good brands should be fine.

Anker is a superb brand. I have several of their chargers, cable, and battery packs.

Yup they stand behind their stuff. I have expressed my gratitude to the brand when contacting them with any issues that I had with multiple items in the past including batteries, cables and earbuds and came away from each experience with a replacement free of charge without any issues.

Does it work well? I love Anker products, but I haven't had much luck with anyone's chargers, and I think I bought one of theirs for my grandkids to charge 2 iPads at once.

Non-uniform chargers don’t bother me. I have enough room in my laptop bag for all the chargers I need. Even if all my devices did use the same type of charger I would probably still carry multiples in case I wanted to charge multiple devices at once.

Don't you run out of available wall sockets? That's been the issue for us particularly with power bricks blocking adjacent ports.

We normally need to charge multiple devices at the same time (at least 4x phones, 1x power bank, 1x iPad) so individual bricks for each device is typically not a viable solution.

If this is your main issue then a usb power hub is what you need.

Edit - sorry just realised you’ve posted earlier that you’ve got an army of usb hubs.

I see the USB C port as a huge positive with the iPad Pro. The quicker the iPhone adopts this port and ditches lightning, the better.

But yes, in the meantime, buy a USB C to lightning cable and be done with it... plus you benefit from faster charging on the newer iPhones.

Yes. I also bought this one to use with my iPad and iPhone. Anker is great.

I don’t have that many devices. A laptop, an iPad, and an iPhone are the main ones, and some other smaller less frequently charged things like my eReader, AirPods, and a Logitech Crayon. I generally use my laptop plugged in if there’s a socket nearby, and maybe I’ll be charging one other thing. In terms of socket use, it also helps that my laptop is a Surface Laptop, and they have a USB charging port in their power brick. That and the fact that it’s magnetic like Apple’s used to be are reasons why I love the Surface charger even though it’s proprietary.
