Title says it all...I dont know much about all this stuff and updated my 3g iPhone in iTunes a day or two after 2.2.1 came out. Went on to jailbreak & unlock it and found out that there is no software to do this yet. I was using it on my original Norwegian contract, but came back to Australia after a holiday at home, so now my contract and thus my iPhone is useless until I get it unlocked. Was excited to see that they usually release jailbreaking software after a couple of days, but then learned that jailbreaking doesnt unlock it as well. So, my question is how long does it usually take for them to come out with unlocking software after a baseband upgrade has been released? Cheers for any answers.

Well it took the dev team 6 months to unlock it the first time and they warned against upgrading to 2.2.1 so at least 6 weeks. Thats just a guess by the way. Good Luck

Wow thats just awful. Im so annoyed. It was a guy I know who has always helped me out with my iPhones who told me to upgrade the firmware before unlocking it. Obviously he didnt know that 2.2.1 had just been released, and I didnt know enough about this stuff to know that it mattered. Now Im stuck with a useless iPhone for a while :( There is nothing I can do, right?

My roommate did a similar thing, updated and then wanted me to jailbreak his phone but couldn't since the software wasn't out.

This is a tough lesson to learn but it'll teach you to do research before any future update.

definetely, but at least now i know the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking :D

oh, and i just found the simple solution to my problem...my phone is locked to the norwegian contract that i have, but i was gonna break that one anyway since I live in Australia, so then my phone will be "legally" unlocked...for some reason I was thinking that even if I paid off the contract I would still need yellowsn0w to use other SIM cards but this is obv not the case :)

What?! your norweigan carrier are gonna replace your handset with factory unlocked one :S

I'd say more than a month, if ever. The new baseband has probably patched the holes that yellowsn0w used, so the Dev Team are going to have to find new holes. Or so I expect.
