My father is 82. I passed down my Mac Mini to him several years ago. He began to use email and loved the internet. (banking, news reading, recording golf scores, fantasy golf league, calendar, etc.)
His birthday was this month and so I got him a 16gb iPad. I was expecting to be constantly answering his questions but there have been very few. He sits with it in his lap as he watches tv each evening and surfs. I get emails now with the "Sent from my iPad" signature. The "touch" interface is excellent for he and my mother, who by the way, is using it anytime he puts it down. So, there is at least one "older gentleman" who is very happy and somewhat proficient. Here is his picture opening the iPad.
