I won't be getting my MacBook Pro until the summer and I'm wondering if I should just try to wait for the Merom processor?

This would be difficult for me because I start college again in mid-August and it'd be so freaking hard to live college life without a computer (I take ALL my notes on it).

I suppose I could get an old clamshell just for word processing until the new MBP's come out.

Sorry for so much text, this is my real question: Can we expect Merom in MacBook Pros any time soon? If so, when?

Daniel.

Read the top article on the front page for an outline of Intel's release dates.

Or do a search, there are way too many of these threads, and we don't really have an answer for you.

My best guess is that it will be pretty consistent with the Intell rollout, considering the sockets are the same. Now that apple is in the intel world, they'll want to keep up with other manufacturers.

Well, when Intel releases it doesn't really matter, I'm asking how long it will take Apple to utilize it in their next MBP.

Intel is rolling out Merom in August. WWDC is in August and MacWorld Paris is September. An educated guess would be one of those events, but who knows?

I don't think you will see MEROM products till October or November. Perhaps just in time for the Christmas season.

The one thing I am interested to see is the frequency of product revisions with the Intel switch. I think you will start to see more frequent processor bumps and the same frequency of complete product revisions.

The current Macbook Pro/Powerbook design should be due for an overhaul at the end of this year or perhaps in January.

If Merom debuts with the current design I will wait till a desgn revision given that my MBP is serving me quite nicely at the moment.

merom redesign

my vote is for a september or october release.

the real question i have is will we see a complete machine revision at that time? the chips are much more efficient so apple may be able to do something pretty cool to replace the current macbook pro models. i wonder if those talks of carbon fiber cases will come back into play later this year, it'd be sweet to get the machine weights down a little bit.

Man, I really doubt Apple's going to ditch the silver casings. There was talk of colored MBP's a little bit ago. Personally, I would love to see a white one, but not the iBook material, what I'm thinking of is like the current PB's and MBP's, but white. Almost like powder-coated metal. There was talk of black too. But even if these colors come out, I'll probably stick to the silver.

I also highly doubt Apple's going to make the machine any thinner, haha. 1" is pretty crazy thin and hard to beat. Any thinner and you could fold it up and put it in your pocket.

If you see the Yonah release date and Intel iMac available date, you'll have some idea.
