when cursor goes to the screen limits...

When moving the cursor to the far ends of the screen, up down or left right, i realise that the area is larger and the screen size pops to larger dimensions. How is this occurring, might i press some key commands by accident?

You probably zoomed the screen using the accessibility option. Open System Preferences and check in the Accessibility panel.

I agree with @galad I think by default the zoom combination is Ctrl-mouse wheel to zoom in/out. I use it often!

I don't think it was a zoom action... its as if the display got larger and when moving the mouse to the corners, the area would tilt to that position. (im not certain if "tilt" is the correct word)
