iPhone 15 Pro Max When did Apple stop compressing iPhone back up file sizes via Finder?

50GB of hard drive space won't back up a 100GB iPhone because it needs 100gb? When the heck did they stop compressing these files?
So people HAVE to have iCloud if they want to back up iPhones now? This is completely bull ****.

Depends on what the 100GB consists of. If the majority of it is photos, those are pretty close to optimally compressed already.
