When did Whatsapp get a dark mode icon?

I always use Dark Mode and WhatsApp has always stuck out like sore thumb because it had no dark mode icon. iI know you could make a shortcut to change the icon but I like to see the badges.

But now we have a Dark Mode icon and it looks great. I an running the IOS 18 Beta so is that why?

Now all I need is an iPad App!

That is why. iOS 18 can automatically generate dark versions of icons for various apps.

No, it's not. Well, yeah you'll only get dark icons on iOS 18 but it wasn't Apple that changed it. For me, the WhatsApp icon was the normal design until a recent WhatsApp update. It was updated when I was on public beta 2 so I know it wasn't a change Apple made.

I'm just waiting on Reddit, Amazon, Ring, Excel, and Steam to update to dark mode.

If you've been following the developer betas you would know the dark WhatsApp icon first appeared after installing developer beta 3 in early July (as one more stated above). The iOS 18 dark icons don't show up for everyone for whatever reason, perhaps the recent update fixed this.

For me WhatsApp had not a dark mode icon. It only went dark for me when I used large icons at my home screen.
With the WhatsApp update today I got a dark icon even with small icons.
I don’t know the behavior when you have WhatsApp in the dock.

WhatsApp business still is green in all modes…

Some had it in a previous beta. Others, like me got it when the last app update came out.

I think that it wasn’t anything WhatsApp did, but the update triggered Apple’s machine learning to re-look at the icon and give us a dark mode version.

I'm having it since beta 3 i think... but still no dark icon for Instagram and Reddit unfortunately.
