Sounds like a weird question from the title, but I'm wondering when do the 14 days expire on retail Apple Store returns? I purchased on launch day (Fri), so do I have until Fri 5 to return, or is it close of play Thurs 4? If the Fri, would it be close of play? Not sure I can get to an Apple Store on Thurs...

From the date of the receipt, You Have exactly 14 days from the date you purchased the phone to make the return.

Most consumers return their phones before the 14 days, Apple is fairly lenient, as long as you’re within that time range, it won’t be a problem. Some just go way past the 14 day return period and then think Apple should make an exception.

No, 14 days is 14 days, which is very generous really on Apple's part. To try to extend past 14 days would be very cheeky. It's just a question of whether the 14 days includes the day of purchase, but I think I'm just overthinking it

I was thinking about that question yesterday as well!
And googled a bit but funny enough to find the correct answer for that question isn’t as obvious and easy I one might think...
The best answer I got was to look in the receipt or check out your order page online... and then you know...

Life hack: you can extend the 14 days for two weeks by going to Apple.com and clicking start a return. This applies to products bought online or in store.

However after the initial 14 days the only option would be to mail it back if you ultimately decide to return it.

14 days starts when you walk out with it at the store or on the day you received via mail.

I’m pretty sure you can still return it on Oct 5,2018. Last year i returned an iphone on the exact return date on my local apple store receipt.

Simple. You go to Apple.com and it will tell you if your local Apple store has stock available you can choose to pick it up in store instead of having it delivered. But yes if you start the Return on day 14. You have additional 14 days so send it back but note that the 14 days start when you click on it, so even if you say click the return button on day 10. Then you have 14 days from that day you hit the Return button.

But for purchases directly from the Apple Store, you must return those directly to the store. Any Apple store is fine.

I guess it a depends if it’s a carrier model? Even at the Apple store and say if you purchase said att model and it was fiananced with carrier finance then you have 13 days. And the day you buy it counts as day 1. That’s what my Apple store manager told me.

On 3 occasions, when I've returned stuff to the Apple Store on Day 14, the rep has always said that they need a manager override (this has been for inexpensive things, like cases, for example). I point out that the receipt says that it's returnable through that date, and they still get a manager to punch in his code. They've never refused, but I find it odd. On Day 13, no questions asked.

In the past I have provided my Apple ID during an in-store purchase and it appeared in my order history. This was sometime ago, so I'm not sure if it's still a thing.

The day you buy/receive does NOT count towards the 14 day total, hence 10/5 for a 9/21 purchase. You have until close of business on the 5th to return.

Something to note is that if you’re using AT&T NEXT program then you actually have 13 days. The day you purchase being day number 1.

I have initiated return online and completed the return in the retail store. Not necessary to mail.
