My previous Intel-based iMac used a keyboard and mouse that used batteries. My new 24" M1 iMac of course has the wireless Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard. I'm just wondering if it's best to let these devices completely go dead before charging? What do most people do? Share them at 50% or let then get very low / dead before charging? (by the way - I notice the charging port for the mouse is on the bottom of the device so that you can't use it while charging. Is it just me or is that a really poor design?)

Don't let them go completely dead. You should get a notification warning when the battery charge is low. On my TrackPad, for instance, that happens when there is about 2% charge remaining. At that point, connect a lightning cable to recharge the device. I can continue using my keyboard or TrackPad when it is charging, so no inconvenience.

As you point out, you will not be able to use the mouse when it is recharging. YES, this is definitely a poor design decision !!

Thanks. Can I ask - about how long does it take to fully recharge from near-dead?

I've never timed how long it takes. Keep in mind that you can use the trackpad and keyboard while they're charging. I just charge mine periodically when I notice the batteries are getting lower.

I wonder for how many people, the charging port on the Magic Mouse is really a problem in day to day use? ?

Create a new thread on that specific topic and you will quickly find out. lol It is a big point of contention around here for a lot of people (whether it impedes workflow or not).
I can imagine, what replies I would get here on ComplainRumors.?

But in real life, I don't know anyone, who had a problem with the charging. Reasons are: Even if you get the "low battery warning", you can still use the mouse relatively long and you need to charge it for just a few minutes to get a full day of use again.

People had other problems with the Magic Mouse, but charging wasn't one of them.

I only recharged mine once, about 1.5-2.0 hrs. I barely use it. Bought it with 2020 MBA that I rarely use. Work horse MBA 2012. Charging port on bottom= Mr Ives demise.
