It has been discussed at length in existing threads. An educated guess would be by November. Earlier than September is completely unrealistic in terms of probability.

That's probably less of an issue than Mavericks release.

Not really. Thunderbolt is a bigger risk.

Intel has always had 2014 as a target for volume TB v2 production (over a year ago in 2012 http://www.anandtech.com/show/5405/the-first-thunderbolt-speed-bump-likely-in-2014) . They still do. Redwood Ridge ( a TB v1 variant with DisplayPort v1.2 added to the DP host interface backward compatible mode ) is targeted for 2013.

Given that Intel's demos of Thunderbolt v2 in April-June have consisted of fresh from the fab engineering samples, not running at fully expected speeds there is a real risk Thunderbolt v2 will show up late into the Fall . It is not likely that Intel is going to kill off Redwood Ridge before any significant units had a chance to start shipping with it yet. It is also quite likley Intel spent most of the beginning of the 2013 working on getting Redwood Ridge ready for market, not Falcon Ridge. The presumption of Falcon Ridge shipping early is one of about zero defects controllers fresh from the initial fab runs. That isn't likely.

Mavericks likely is September (or so) time frame. That is a 2 month slide from July. Thunderbolt v2 could very easily be Oct-Nov. [ Sure Apple could be buying up all the TB v2 controllers that Intel makes .... but where would that leave the peripheral vendors? Demand is quite likely much higher than supply until 2014. ]

Old Cinema Display on new Mac Pro ?

+

Interesting article right there.

Since you mentioned compatibility, I assume the "old-non-TB-Apple-Cinema-Display-27'" will work with no problem on the new 13' Mac Pro?? Leaving those with that slower USB2 hub connected to one of the 4 USB3 ports on the MP. Can you confirm on that ?

It should, but you'll never know until you try.

My guess closer to the end of 2013 then the end of summer, i.e., November is more likely then September. I think the critical path to the release of the MacPro is the release of the thunderbolt 2.0 controller chip. Apple is on the hook for TB2 on the MacPro and so they need to wait for intel.

So, my post was made in jest.....but thought it would be interesting to see what people thought a realistic release date was.

Hasn't Apple gotten new chips from Intel before everyone else in the past (maybe not all of the time, but sometimes )?
