With lithium-ion batteries, it improves the life of the battery to not fully drain them before recharging them. How low do you let your battery get before recharging it? And, do you charge them to 100% even if you aren’t going to use them for a while (which also supposedly isn’t best for them)?

Store it half charged when you store it long term. Forget about the rest. I don’t even think your claim about lithium-ion batteries is true. The battery in your headphones is managed by a computer. You can’t drain the cells enough to damage them.

I have seen with my iPhones (lithium ion battery) that never letting them get down past 60-70 % and keeping them charged makes the battery health % drop much slower.

I really wouldn't worry about. First, Apple has battery saving methods in place as pretty much every manufacturer of lithium ion devices. So, whatever you are doing may work against what the device and charger are doing. Second, even if you do end up making a positive impact, it is unlikely to be enough to warrant the inconvenience.

TL;DR: Just charge it when you want.

Honestly, managing the battery like a job is just far too much work and far too inconvenient for me. I use my devices and charge them whenever I feel like charging them. Sometimes that means I'm at 5% and sometimes that's at 80%.

I've only replaced 1 battery on my device and that was on the ill-fated 6S with its battery problems that Apple recalled the batteries on.

I mean if you did wear the battery out it is $79 to replace it. Not worth the hassle to inconvenience myself trying to "manage it".

But "you do you" :)

Me too. I just charge whenever I need to/think about it. I just have other priorities than managing batteries.

Plus, I have AppleCare for my APM ($59) if I ever do need a battery replacement.

Would be a lot easier to manage if they weren’t constantly draining when not in use.

Do you have the latest software update? I’ve found the loss of power when not being used seems to have disappeared.

Without the case, I lose 6-8% over night. In the case, it still isn’t perfect and loses a couple percent. There should be an off button.

I never leave mine out of the case. I’ve not noticed the loss overnight with the case (now that I have latest update). I’m fine without an on/off button.

If I notice them being below 50% and I'm not about to use them, I'll usually plug them up. They last forever though so this comes out to every couple of days or so.

I’ve now gotten into the habit of charging them when the get to the last 25% (not because I’m worried about draining them too low, but, instead, because it would be a big inconvenience to have them run out of juice when I want to use them).

I let them charge until I want to use them. Most of the time this gets to 100% which is probably not the best, but it would be an annoying inconvenience to have to use them when they are plugged in.

So, my charging is regulated by two inconveniences:
1) I never want to have to have them die on me when I want to use them
2) I do not want to ever have to use them plugged in (unless I’m on an airplane).

Hopefully this keeps the health of the batteries in good shape.

I do try to follow the "rules" of not letting devices get below 20% and try not to keep them plugged in too long when they are at 100%. I follow this because I have two Tesla Model 3's, so learning about battery health was important on something that is relatively expensive. So I figure I might as well try and treat my Apple tech the same way.

*Love my AirPods Max. I'm excited to travel with them for the first time later this year (half way vaccinated) but I have very much enjoyed using them around the house. I have only had them for a couple weeks. I upgraded from Beats Studio3 (which I also really liked). I have found several YouTube reviews fascinating with how well they compete with other high-end headphones, including ones that are more expensive.

I use them all day for work, teaching online. Typically 6 to 9 hours a day on Zoom. Then I plug them in every night!

I don't worry much about it. I don't keep it topped off, but if it gets below 40% I'll put it on the charger,

So cool seeing a fellow teacher using these for Zoom all day!

After that much use every day, do they feel still feel comfortable?

Not the person you asked, but I also teach on Zoom all day. I have in the neighborhood of 6 hours at work everyday and then will often wear them anywhere from an hour up to 2 or 3 hours at night. They are comfortable doing that. It took a bit to get them to be comfortable for that, but now I am finding at the end of the day I do not have much fatigue from wearing them. I am not trying to rip them off my head as soon as my last period is done.

Yeah, they're really comfortable to me. The only time I get discomfort it is because of my glasses legs under them. Or, like, I do need to make sure my ears are really within the cups instead of being pressed down by them.
