This is mostly an irrelevant issue, but I was curious about it and am hoping I can find the answer here.

Throughout all the calls I've made and received on my iPhone, I have never yet come across this screen: http://gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2007/07/IMG_0319.jpg (The call screen with the name of the caller and number type, along with a tiny thumbnail image of the caller's picture)

Does anyone know when/how/why you get this screen when receiving a call? Whenever I get a call, I usually get a full screen picture of the caller, not a tiny thumbnail with the selected wallpaper taking up the majority of the screen. I know it's not a big deal, but I just like the look of it. :)

really that's interesting. I actually get the exact opposite. Almost always it is a small thumbnail, sometimes it is the larger image. Someone on here said the deciding factor is the size of the pic that you use, but I am not sure what the cut off is. If someone knows please post.

Assign your contacts their picture on your computer and you will get the thumbnail. The large pic will be your wallpaper.

If you assign the contact a picture from one on the phone it will be full screen if you resize it that way.

How do you assign contacts their picture on the computer? I am using Windows XP, and there is no option to assign pics to contacts while connected to iTunes; the only way I can do it is on the phone itself.

Are you using a Mac? Is it possible this is a Mac only feature??

I believe you can assign pictures to your contacts in Office and then sync them in iTunes in Windows.

Not 100% sure but think it should work.

Yeah, you can assign pictures to contacts through Outlook, which is how you would do this on a Windows machine.

Not sure if it works for outlook express, but I know it does for the full version that comes with Office 2003

You can add photos to any contact in your apple adress book. This contact photos will be shown as thumbnails in every email (apple mail) you get and now although as caller image on your iphone.

When you add photos to your contacts on your iPhone this will take effect the same way then on any other cellphone.

So I'm assuming through the helpful responses posted here and some trial-and-error that if you assign a photo to a contact through either Outlook or Address Book, you get the thumbnail style screen. If you assign a contact a photo on the iPhone itself, you will get a full screen image when you make/receive a call.

Is that the general consensus?
