When do you think a dual quad 2.7 ghz will surface?

I was thinking about it today because i've been really really holding out on buying the dual core 2.3 ghz. I dont have enough cash for the 2.5ghz quad core. But i know if they release a 2.7ghz quad core the prices may drop. does anyone have any good gossip on a power mac quad core 2.7 ghz coming out in the next quarter or two? Heh if not i may just have to say good buy to that extra holiday money and buy the 2.5. I think it would be worth it. God would shake and maya blaze on that baby. i may have to buy a led vest to set it on.

My guess is that the PowerMacs might have been replaced by Intel systems by then. They might of course release a 2.7GHz Intel dual dualcore, but I'm guessing you were referring to a PPC model.

Hmmm, the only way Apple will move to Quad core Intel Macs, if they decide to build systems using Xeon chips. The desktop line of Intel chips does not support dual system chips, though they support dual core chips.

Not to be "that guy", but MP setups do not work that way. Two cores at 2ghz does not equal a 4ghz single core machine in performance. The only case in which that is true is when the dual core processor is at full load (100% usage) and running pefectly threaded software (not really possible).

Doubtful. Word is that they'll be moving the portables in first, as the G5 at the mo is plenty powerful, and is expected to keep getting faster. I'd guess they'll skip Quad 2.7 for something faster, when they do get around to coming out with it...Quad 3 if we're lucky.

quad 3 makes more sense than quad 2.7. but then again I also thought we'd got from dual 2.5 to dual 3 and instead we got dual 2.7 so I could be wrong. I do agree that we will see at least one or two more G5 powermac revisions before they go to Intel, and I for one am glad since it will prolong the support of my system (selfish I know )
