Mojave was released in late September 2018, Catalina in mid-October 2019, and Big Sur...? Any guesses?

I'm hoping for sooner than later. Catalina is/was a hot mess.

Will probably coincide with announcement of the first Apple Silicon systems, so late October I guess.

Given the platform change, the issues Apple are working on may not be very visible to the end customer but instead more focused on getting everything to run well on both Intel and Apple Silicon.

I would actually prefer they take their time to get this right. Catalina beta and initial versions was not good!

I don't think it's close yet, so I'd say late October. But they'll probably ship it in mid October and clean up the mess later.

Despite some great features and fixes, I think Big Sur would be a hotter mess than Catalina at the moment.

Hence, since it will be "messy", it might be best to wait for the .2 or .3 release. I know I will (although I am forced to, given that Tech Tool Pro will, most likely, not have a Big Sur update/version available until December).

I'm not saying you should always wait for a specific post-release bug fix level, but there's really no rush to install on the first day. If you wait a week, you'll have a much better idea of what works and what doesn't.

Waiting for the 2 or 3 specifically might be too long, but I think there's been releases where it was not long enough!

As I mentioned above, there is nothing earth shattering in Big Sur that I must have. Also, I have a requirement that all my third party applications need to be compatible with the new OS. Finally, Catalina works just fine, and easily satisfies my needs. Hence, I can wait.

I've been following that same process for the past 5 pr 6 versions of the mac OS, and i always wind up with a trouble free environment on both of my Macs. That is the way I like it.

I agree with this. There is likely a lot of info related to the ARM Macs that are due to launch before the end of this year in the final code that Apple doesn't want floating around yet. It doesn't appear that software of other devices (iPhone, Watch, etc.) depends on Mac OS Big Sur in order to function within Apple's ecosystem, so there isn't a need to rush out the Mac OS update.

Yes indeed, I've always wait for the official version ( lol ) I take no risks with my apple-products 😂
Good idea, although the first couple of versions of the mac OS tend to contain a number of bugs, and in some instances, serious ones. As I mentioned above, I'm going to wait, although I will most likely install V11.1 on one of my external SSDs for testing. Meanwhile, I'll be waiting until all my third party applications are compatible with Big Sur.

That's for sure, some people recommend to wait for a month, that the number of bugs is fixed.
