Curious to see what y'all think now that the M2 Pro/Max MacBook Pro spec bump could come any day now!

Here's every October 25th - January 31st announcement during the Intel/Apple Silicon era (disregarding BTO additions) to help you guess. FYI Apple has never announced a new Mac in December during the past 20 years.

  • October 26th - New M2 iPad Pros available
  • October 27th - Apple Announces 4Q 2022 Fiscal Year

Apples Holiday Return Policy will go into action soon as well, for past years:
  • 2021: November 1st through January 8th
  • 2020: November 10th through January 8th
  • 2019: November 15th through January 8th
  • 2018: November 14th through January 8th
Finally keep in mind that the BTO options for the current M1 MacBook Pros have been slipping and are roughly two weeks out.

Also any guesses on what the update might include?

I figure...
  • Very Likely:
    • Faster CPU/GPU Performance in M2 Pro/Max
      • New base model 14" could start off at 10 CPU Cores
    • WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 (which includes BT LE Audio)
      • iPad Pros just got these
  • Possible:
    • Port Updates
      • HDMI 2.1
      • UHS-III
      • May require more thunderbolt bandwidth than is currently available
    • Colors? (I'd love a Midnight MacBook Pro)
      • Less likely since the iPad Pros didn't get new colors

Well looks like based on the rumors today we won't be seeing new MacBook Pros until 2023 :(

So with that said, any guesses on the new dates? My money is on late February to early March 2023.

We got new Pros in February 2006 (14th), 2008 (26th), 2011 (24th), 2013 (13th) and in March 2009 (3rd), 2015 (9th).

Also with this delay I'd be willing to bet they will be 3nm. This jives with previous rumors about 3nm production ramping up in Q4 2022 and TSMC receiving revenue for those chips in Q1 2023. Wouldn't be the first time Apple has split fabrication nodes among chip generations as the A10 and A10X were on 16nm and 10nm respectively.

BB put the m1 14 pro on sale so I figured the new models were about to drop, however the salesperson acted like they had a large stockpile of the m1s when I inquired about how many they had

Well, more and more rumors are reporting that the MBP wont come out until 2023.

I suspect Jan/Feb will be too slow and so maybe Mar/Apr at the earliest

I was optimistic it would be oct / nov but with the latest rumors and comments from earnings, I think it’s spring.

I gave in and bought an M1 Pro on sale for my wife who has an older MBP and I am also in the market but may hold off until spring even though I would prefer not to.

Apple had better release the MBPs before China starts its upcoming war with Taiwan (we all know it's coming, based on their actions in Hong Kong). When that goes down, Apple will be in a serious bind, considering their reliance on TSMC.

Apples Holiday Return Policy will go into action soon as well, for past years:
  • 2021: November 1st through January 8th
  • 2020: November 10th through January 8th
  • 2019: November 15th through January 8th
  • 2018: November 14th through January 8th
Well Apple's Holiday Return Policy went into effect today which guarantees we won't see any new MacBook Pros until after January 8th (they have never introduced a new product after opening this return period as far as I'm aware).

I think we'll see them announced in an event with the Mac Pro anywhere from mid-February to early-March.

Off to go grab a 14" M1 Pro!
