I think they will be released in very early August, just right in time for the back-to-school madness. I also think there will be a special event. When do you think they will be introduced?

There are already a ton of threads on this topic....

But I'd still have to say early August to catch the back-to-schoolers. At least that would be the smart thing to do in my opinion...

Early August is the smartest for sales, though even earlier would be better. I dunno, we'll see.

heres a different q

will the imacs be updated silently on the website or you rec apple will announce a special event sometime soon?

I rec if special event, the event will be announced sometime next week for the 7th or 8th aug where new imacs or ipods will be announced.

If silently on the website i rec anytime between 31st july and 8th aug, although i would guess now either tues 7th or wed 8th due to that tax free weekend or somethin in US. Would make sense for apple to use that to get rid of as much stock as possible

If they get Santa Rosa or LED or a bigger hard drive, it'll probably be silent. If they are aluminum and come with funky low profile keyboards, I suppose Apple will find some way of blowing their horn. :D

EDIT: Oh, crap, I don't think they're ever going to be updated. Scratch all that. :D

Hey guys, first post here, great forum by the way!

My theory behind why we have yet to see any iMacs.

1. Apple is making higher margins on the current line of iMacs than they will on the models.
2. Education customers (mainly Schools purchasing multiple units) are (in my opinion) the least likely to know, care, or willing to wait for the new iMacs.
2a. The deadline for purchases for this upcoming school year must be either very soon or already past.

Soooo....

Apple waited until after all the Education customers had placed their orders so they could sell them the old models and make higher margins.

Now that this period has passed....who knows? I predict that all new iMacs will have a licorice dispenser on them...similar to the one mounted on the roof of the Mirth-mobile in Wayne's World. :D

Cheers,

Collin

They have never introduced a new iMac (or almost any other computer) without a Stevenote. However, I'm not sure when that Stevenote would be. The only time I can think of would be the Apple Expo Paris, but that would be in September, meaning they'd miss the back-to-school rush.

And if they put a licorice dispenser on an imac, I will definitely go crazy.

I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that said they're coming out with a 42" iMac called the "BigMac." It will be red and yellow and will come with a security lock to prevent the macburglar from stealing it, which would make you grimace in distaste . You can get it as a combo with a side of fries and a printer.

This post comes in frustration for waiting for the update. My humblest apologies. Now if you'll excuse me, lunchtime awaits.

Aside from the MacBook, that is.

I believe that the MacBook was supposed to be announced at the Mac mini/iPod hifi event, but at the last minute it wasn't ready. The mini should have had the web release the MacBook got.

I am a teacher that was given a G4 ibook several years ago and the time has come for our district to receive new laptops... I was hoping that I would be getting a new ibook, but our district went with gateways- they are very nice machines (we are using windows XP, but they purchased Vista, but are waiting for Vista to get better with our districts network setting). The Tech people said that Apple would not offer anywhere near as good of a deal as gateway did... so I am now without a mac... I plan on getting a 24" imac as soon as they are updated- I refuse to pay top dollar for one year old tech... but Apple knows that if you want an Apple there is only one option...
I am sure Apple doesn't care about losing our District...

Media event. The time between updates is equivalent to that between the last G4 iMacs and the first G5 iMacs, which also means we'll see just as big an upgrade.
