When do you think the "ultra-portable" will come?

I know some people hate these posts but...
I searched and couldn't really find the thread/discussion I was looking for. And Have Googled and read all the articles on it from other sites/sources.
Maybe I am just overly excited for it, and want to read more peoples opinion.
When do you guys think it will come? I'm also interested in others opinion of it in general, or anything about it at all.

I think it depends on what you are looking for. For me, the MacBook would be plenty "ultra portable". You could almost even consider the iPhone as an "ultra portable". If you are looking for a 12"/13" MacBook Pro, I almost don't see a reason for them to make one IMO, but I may be wrong.

January, maybe the return of the 12"? I'd love it, as long as the resolution isn't like my iPod... oh well, 15" is fine for now.

It had bloody better well be in the Pro line-up with aluminium and backlit keyboard and glossy display and all that. I just hope it doesn't have an optical drive.

Seriously, I have no idea... in the next 18 months, though, a legitimate SSD-based subnotebook will be fully financially and technologically feasible at a reasonable price point. Someone will be doing it. I just hope it's Apple.

I voted after January 2008, since I won't say never, but I highly doubt that it isw coming anytime soon. I would love to be wrong and see it sometime very soon, but I doubt it.

I've got a couple of minds on this one. Apple does tend to release laptops in the fall, generally timed to hit just before the holidays. An "ultra-portable" would be a perfect holiday item, especially in my household...

On the other hand, these things tend to take a lot longer than I think they should, so maybe sometime in 2009.
