Craig said the final version of Photos would be released in early 2015. Doesn't it feel that we should have a beta of it by now if it's going to be released in 1-3 months?

I wonder if it is going to be delayed.

there are undoubtedly people testing it now, if it's to be officially released early 2015...

Retail staff testing Photos App

there are undoubtedly people testing it now, if it's to be officially released early 2015...

Apple have already sought retail staff to test the Photos App. The following comment was made by Apple back in July:

"We are seeking a technical and passionate photography enthusiast to join our Quality Assurance team working on Photos for OS X. You will be part of a fast moving team of specialists tasked with delivering the next generation of photography tools for Apple."

Article here: http://9to5mac.com/2014/07/14/apple...ast-retail-employees-to-test-os-x-photos-app/

If they are currently testing in-house then I'm assuming they probably won't require very much time for public beta testing - assuming there is even a general public beta release. The Photos App will probably continue to be refined and evolve after the official release and subsequent releases.

I'm really hoping that there is a Public beta of the Photos App. I also hope the app is appropriate for enthusiast photographers and not just happy snaps and filter effects.

Interested to hear others thoughts on the likely-hood of a public beta and if so, when we can expect it.

Cheers!

If past is any indication, we'll see a Photos app that is something like this...

  • It is heavily influenced by the iOS counterpart
  • Has 30% of the features of iPhoto, and 5% of the features of Aperture
  • iCloud Photo Library is the only way to sync the photos; you either sync all albums or you sync nothing
  • Has no way to move the library to an external drive, all your photos must reside in the root partition
  • No duplicate resolution (duplicates from iCloud Photo Library) when migrating from iPhoto and Aperture
  • Lets you only migrate one iPhoto/Aperture library

Knowing Apple, we'll get the "beta" when the final version is released....

Macrumors had written earlier about issues with their team and the cloud products: https://www.macrumors.com/2014/11/24/icloud-development-organizational-issues/

This impacts the iCloud Photo Library, which most everyone thinks is key to Photos, so that may mess up plans for an early release.

I so wish they were less opaque about their plans with photo management. I don't see how this serves them well. But they still make more money than I do, so whadda I know?
