So, I bought a current 20" there recently, in the last two weeks because of the 150$ rebate and a 150$ certificate I had making my price 1400$ AR.

But, the first one they sent me was damaged, so it went back and a new one should be here tomorrow.

I am planning on DECLINING the shipment, amazon will credit me the full amount, I MAY lose the 150$ but would rather get a new INTEL IMAC.

Question: When does AMAZON as a CHANNEL start getting these things?

I seem to remember that when the previous new 2.0ghz iMac was released, it took amazon about 1 month to start shipping it from the time it was released. IIRC

They had the last iMac G5 very quickly. About 1.5 weeks or so. It took them a few more days to get the 20 inch though.

nice!

nice, they are still showing not release,

but, they are putting the 150$ off rebate in the mix.

I can wait a few more weeks to save 300$, or more!

how accurate are these initial estimated shipping dates (march 24 in this case) ?

Complete nonsense. Amazon does this, but they'll have them before too long!! I'd be shocked if Amazon wasn't shipping iMacs by end of January.

Indeed.

Not to mention the best customer service in the world. :)

I love shopping on Amazon. I hope through the years their prices and performance does not wane, for it really is a great store.

tivoboy,

I am a member of Amazon Prime, and it is great.

I suggest you even pay the $3.99, when you order, for next day delivery. That way you get it a day quicker, and it will be in the UPS system getting beat up one day less. I mean, $3.99 I think its worth it, for such an expensive item. :)

What is the AMEX promotion btw?

AMEX promo

the AMEX wishlist promo comes twice a year, for AMEX card holders. There is a web site, and you can easily win coupons, and items. This year, the hot items were

A brand new RANGE ROVER sport, for 5,000$
A 2.5 carat diamond ring for 2,500$

And then there were the amazon coupons, not to mention BestBuy, sony, toys r us, etc.

They were good for 25% off any order, up to 150$ max. So, on this item I paid 150.00$ less. AND, amazon had a 150.00$ rebate, so it is basically double.

The coupons were also being bought and sold on amazon for anywhere from 25$ to 100$. Depending on the buyer and seller. There was also a MASSIVE thread on Fatwallet, one of the longest in history where people were either giving them away, or selling them direct.

Next one comes around in MAY 2006. So, get your card ready and keep your eyes peeled.

BTW, the toys r us coupons were good for 25% EVERYTHING, no limit. Unfortunatly, there were no XBOX 360 to be had. But there were LOTS of psp and games to be bought.

I ordered a iMac G5 myself from amazon.com about 2 weeks ago. I ended up leaving a note on the door for UPS saying I did not want the order to return to sender.. They left me a note saying will return to sender and within 4 days I had a full credit from amazon on my account. One thing I wish I would have done was ordered my INTEL iMac which will be here monday as it was custom built (2gigs ram, 256mb vram) so its taken FOREVER! anyways I love that amazon does not charge tax unlike apple. I got the shaft of $140 by ordering from apple =( I saved a little more then that from student discounts but overall I wish I would have went with amazon.com.

things are a CHANGIN!

Well, things are changin on the hill, and most likely by end of 2006, amazon will as well be required to start charging sales tax, so the incentive will be much less.

personally, I have NO idea how they can offer a rebate on this item at all.

For me, the tax isn't what's so great about Amazon, for I still have that. I just like everything else about it.

Is there any drawback to ordering from Amazon? As long as my iMac would still be eligible for Apple Care I might go this route.

only drawback

only drawback is that you cannot simply return it to an apple store,

I went ahead and ordered it with two day shipping. Apparently it'll be getting here on Wednesday. :D

I used the money I saved on tax to buy more RAM, so this worked out great.
