When Does iCloud Delete App Data that Doesn't Exist on iPhone Anymore?

I've noticed that weeks after I've deleted an app that stored data in the cloud and I've backed up my iPhone numerous times per day into iCloud, the app data is still on the iCloud backup and I have to go in and manually delete the apps I no longer have on my iPhone.

Is there anyway to have this an automatic process? I really don't ever go back to the apps I delete.

App data stored on iCloud is not part of the backup. You will have to manually delete the iCloud data for the app. Note that if you have a Mac syncing to the same account, there is probably a copy of the data cached there as well.

I don't think that it is automatic. You have to go and delete the data manually.

You will need to connect to a PC/Mac to start the RESTORE process. Once it is done you will then be able to restore iPhone from iCloud.

Make sure you have your iPhone plugged into your Computer (via iTunes) or you are on a WiFi network otherwise, it won't complete the reset until you are connected.

Once iTunes detects the phone, select RESTORE.

During the reset, "everything" is erased, settings are set back to factory defaults and iOS is reinstalled.
When the phone restarts, set it up as new and follow the prompts or restore from your most recent backup within iTunes or from iCloud.
Then reinstall all of your apps, music, setup iCloud to sync your Contacts, Reminders, Calendar, Notes, etc.

If Find My iPhone is enabled with your iCloud account settings on the iPhone, turn this off first.

After Find My iPhone has been turned off, on the iPhone go to Settings > General > Reset and select Erase All Content & Settings. This is a secure erase of all content and settings - everything but iOS and the included apps.

This is not at all what he's asking.

What is happening, and this has happened to me, is that he's installed an app, decided he doesn't want it anymore so deletes it. However, even after it's been deleted from his iPhone, he'll check what is backing up to iCloud, yet the app will still show up...even though it's not on the device, it's still being backed up.

I don't know the definite answer but maybe if you restart your iPhone it'll go. My iPad had Facebook still in iCloud even though I deleted it a long time ago, my iPad hadn't been restarted since Dec 16th last year and I restarted it the other day, now that I check iCloud it appears Facebook has gone finally. So perhaps try turning it off and on again to see if that clears anything, unless you restart often. I never turn my iPhone/iPad off.
