when iPhone OS 4.0 is so tasty that you can't resist...

What will you people who bought wi-fi only versions of the iPad do when Apple releases 4.0 and kills the jailbreak? The new OS is said to have multi-tasking and other very desirable features....just be careful not to update, right? Else, no more free tethering via myfi.

I have a jailbroken 3GS. Nonetheless, I'm waiting 3 weeks longer and getting the 3G iPad that can use all of the GPS featured apps. I really think many of you shorted yourselves and you could regret your decision a few months from now.

What if you don't use an iPhone to tether ;)
 
Have you hear about ebay? You can sell the ipad non 3g and get the same price or more, international buyers buy them easilly :) , I use my android phone as my wifi router I get 2 mbps downloads easilly, gps apps dont get my position tought unless Im on a normal wifi.

Then I'm assuming that you use Verizon or Sprint's mifi? If you're paying for that, you might as well just pay AT&T and not have the inconvenience of carrying another supplemental device around with you.

There are certainly people that will never take the iPad out of their home. If you're one of these people, then you have no issues.

Nope... Rooted Nexus One here ;) Tethered perfectly fine with iPad last night :)

i wish AT&T would just get with the program and turn on the iPhone tethering function. They've been holding out now for 9 months. I do admire that functionality about the Android phones and Verizon.

When the 3G iPads go on sale (and international iPads) in a few weeks, do you think they'll still get the high bids on Ebay? I'd love to think so, but I doubt it.

Just wait a few weeks till 4.0 is jailbreaked? Rather that than pay for two 3g contracts...
 
Strangely enough, it really just sounds like you're bitter that WiFi users got theirs first. What's the point in criticizing how others spend their money?

I stopped using iPhone at 3.0 (switched to Nexus One) but IIRC, you need to pay additional data rate for tethering?? Correct me if i'm wrong....

Not really my intent...think of it more like advice. You can still return your iPad within 14 or 30 days, depending on where you bought it ;)

in the US, AT&T has not enabled the tethering feature. You can jailbreak your iPhone and get an app through Cydia that turns your iPhone into a wifi hotspot. If you're in another country, such as Canada, I do believe the carriers offer tethering. It does cost you an additional monthly fee to your data plan, to my knowledge.

Lol AT&T.... I "liked" how MMS came very late (about 2-3 months) after the announcement of 3.0 SDK as well :cool:

None of the carriers in Canada (Rogers, Telus, Bell, Fido, Virgin) charge anything for tethering an iPhone.
 
Easily solved for me. I wasn't planning on tethering my iPad to anything. I won't ever use it in a place that doesn't have WiFi. To me, the iPhone is "bring everywhere" and the iPad is "bring where you can sit down." And in most places I would actually be sitting, there's already WiFi. I know a lot of people are planning to use it this way, so I think the assumption on your part that everyone who bought the WiFi version was hoping to somehow tether is a bit off.
 
I think we'd need to wait until there is at least more credible/reliable info on os 4.0 before we make conclusions about not being able to resist upgrading?

By your same logic, everyone who speculates that an ipad 2nd gen is coming at the end of the year would say those early ipad 3g adopters are selling themselves short when a better cheaper ipad will come out too.

Oh, thanks, now I remember. Has AT&T shown any sign of allowing tethering in the future?
 
1 apple can't fix bootrom exploits.

2 they already have a iboot exploit

3 the new iphone will be jailbroken like the 3gs the first day.
