I am planning to wait for the next Apple announcement and pre-order iPhone 13. Let's say that the announcement will happen September 14th. When usually the day the pre-order is open? And how many days to ship? Also how long does the pre-order window lasts before closing it?

Preorders usually start the following Friday - I am just not sure of the time, it varies sometimes. It should ship a couple of days before Launch Day so that you will receive it on the day of launch (I'm basing this on other's reports; I haven't done the delivery option when I preordered the 12 Pro Max I did the pick up in store option). I could be wrong; I'm basing all this on memory from when I preordered the 12 Pro Max lol I remember the day I Preordered (Nov 6th) and the day I got it, on Launch Day (Nov 13). I just don't remember when they "announced" it or the time preorders were available as I did it rather late in the afternoon and still got it on Launch Day.

As @DiCaprioAngel mentioned, preorder usually happens a week after the official announcement, unless there are extenuating circumstances that would delay the pre-order process. Delivery of the pre-order usually occurs on the official release day, whereby customers can also purchase in store.

As to shipping, often times a pre-order enters the "processing order" status fairly quickly and often stays in that status until 2 - 3 days before actual shipment.

Lately the preorder has happened the Friday after the announcement at 8AM EST with release the following Friday.

However preorders used to happen at 3AM EST on the Friday after announcement.

Re: pre-order window closing: not really a thing, as technically, you can put in a pre-order up to launch day, at which point you're not pre-ordering anymore.

Better way to look at it is, if you don't get your order in early on first day of pre-orders, you might not get a launch day delivery. But that's all contingent on how popular the new device might be in general, color(s), memory sizes, screen size, etc. Basically, depends on how popular a configuration is.
