However, in Iphones (and now watches) all year the weight of devices is increased more a more and it seems that 14 & 14 plus models are never recommended by reviews.
I've seen reviews recommending them and some not. You can't let someone else decide what's best for you. Reviews are just some insight into the product based on one person's opinion.
This Friday I received “my” new iphone 14 PM (coming from 11 PM) and the feel when I hold it for first time was shocking. How is possible that someone really feel this device comfortable to use? Of course you can learn to get used to it, but no one can say “I really like this characteristic or I’m happy with it”.
So I'm not allowed to say I'm happy with the weight of the Pro Max? Everyone is different and just because the weight bothers you don't mean it bother's everyone. I can see it bothering many people especially those with smaller hands. It's only slightly heavier than the S22 Ultra and I think that would be it's closest competitor.

Why apple does not invest in other materials like magnesium/titanium or use aluminum 7000 to decrease weight?? I’m very frustrated because I don’t want to reduce screen to 6,1” (pro model) an 14 PM is excessively heavy 🤦🏼‍♂️
Cost and looks. Magnesium is brittle. Aluminum is soft and easily scratched. It's also looked at by consumers as a lesser material. If they made the Pro out of the same material as the regular iPhone the tech press would make it into metal-gate. I think titanium is maybe possible but unlike the watch it would take more material. People are already complaining about the price. Even if it was only a $100 more it wouldn't be popular.

remember iphone 3G and 5C?

Good old plastic does wonders to weight and wireless charging ;)
Plastic would be tougher than the glass and likely the stainless steel but people don't like plastic. The first thing people think about is "cheap". I think it would be better but you can't convince people of that.

I have decided to open a thread exclusive to this topic. Regarding iPads & Macs, they released iPad Air and Macbook Air some year ago and now are the most popular options. Customers really value more comfortable devices to live with and leave inconvenience of Pro models to people that are going to take advance to the differential features.

The weight is indeed absurd.

i remember a few years ago when iPhones kept getting thinner people were complaining that it was pointless. The devices felt cheap and the battery sucked. People said that they would gladly sacrifice weight and thinness for a better battery life. Apple has done this, and now that battery life is finally good, we get complaints about the device being too heavy. You just can’t please everyone. But what does the iPhone 14 Pro Max even weigh? 240 grams right? People act like it’s some brick that they have to carry around all the time. I mean, if you’re really bothered by 240 grams of weight in your hand, then I think it’s time to start making some lifestyle changes.

People have different preferences on the weight of the phone, but now that the phone's weight already feels "premium" enough, you would think Apple will start to shrink the weight again as a selling point for future iPhones. I lift weights but it does not mean I like using heavier phones.

I like the iPhone heavy.. Heavy = Quality. I don’t understand why people think the iPhone is heavy. Is it giving you fatigue? It’s only 8.47 ounces!!! Y’all are complaining about that for the pro max? Excessively heavy? Wow.. sounds like Wussatosis to me. LOL.
A bottle of Dr Pepper is 20oz, a can of coke is 12oz… etc. I realize it gets consumed, but come on… they are heavier than the iPhone. the iPhone isn’t heavy. If it gets too light, it will bend or break easily. The only way to really make it lighter is manufacture it out of plastic, so no thank you for that. Have you picked up the Samsung galaxy S 22 ultra? It feels cheap because of the plastic. The stainless steel does not make the iPhone heavy. It’s the glass and the battery that adds weight. The stainless steel on these phones is very thin and probably weighs 1 ounce or 2 ounces.

Aluminium is not stainless steel. Titanium would double iPhone price for sure. There doesn’t seem to have many other options to reduce weight other than giving up Wireless charging and going back to iPhone 6s material. That glass back is heavy too, and nothing much can be done about it.
There’s tons of options. Look at the MacBook Pro vs Thinkpad x1 carbon.

The issue isn’t the cost of the materials as it is the ability to work with them. Carbon composites covering reception isn’t an issue because there’s antenna placement on the outside of the carbon. So why not use it? Because it’s difficult as well to make in volume with any sort of quality control. You can’t simply inject it. An iPhone isn’t a box they put things in. Carbon also scuffs up pretty easily. There’s nothing wrong with aluminum and I would greatly cheer using it more. When was the last time it was an issue? Someone sitting in an iPhone 6s Max? It’s fine and would be preferred. Get rid of the glass back, too. It’s crap and most use cases.

I’m curious about your weight concern. I have both a recent iPhone Pro Max with Magsafe wallet and a stainless steel watch with link bracelet. At no point have I thought that either were too heavy, much less “shocking.”

Personally, I prefer a device with some heft to it. Heavier devices (within reason) feel more substantial and, at times, more premium. None of Apple’s current devices feel disproportionally or inconveniently heavy to me so I’m somewhat surprised by your comment and similar ones that I see online.

Are there times/positions that you notice this more (e.g., if you’re trying use it in bed with it above your head, which would introduce additional strain)?

If you want the best and the greatest, weight is going to be there always. Simply physics, Apple cannot break the laws of the universe. Want something light, sacrifice on the best and the biggest! Simple!

While aluminium frame can help, aluminium doesn’t feel as premium as stainless steel (evidently reflected by Apple Watch ss edition in the past). iPhone 14 Pro Max is a premium phone. Aluminium doesn’t fit.

And glass back is also a big offender. Idk how that would work.
It may not feel as premium but it is a more premium metal. Costing almost four times as much as stainless steel. I think the heavier a phone is doesn’t make it feel more premium. Lightness does, not weight. I think you have it backward.

Can slap on a battery pack. Can’t make a heavy phone lighter.

If i I want a big screen I’ll get out the iPad.

Exactly, I love my mini and wish to keep it for as long as a new mini or mini-like device comes to the market even if it's Android. I am not going to sacrifice lighter device and one handedness. I have a companion device for media and phone serves me all my basic needs that still has a lot to offer.

I want a 15 mini pro. The 13 mini size is amazing, but I’d love one with the fastest chip and 120hz screen, better cameras even it’s just 2 cameras. I know this won’t happen tho, but the size is really perfect if you consume your media on computers or tvs or whatever instead, like me.

This will happen when Apple links A-series chips directly into our brains. I can see it now. Baby+ have the latest Apple OS installed directly into your newborn’s brain. 🤣🤪😜

Why you consider aluminum a premium material in ipads pro or macbook pro but not in an iphone?

Regarding weight and its contribution , the best example is an apple watch sport vs SS where only difference is the material.

Watch 8 sport > 38,8 grams
Watch 8 SS > 51,5 grams

33% more in weight only because material change!! This is more or less the same percentage of iphone 14 plus vs 14 pro max (of course in this case the third lens contributes in some way).

Of course all these thoughts depends on individual uses. One of my case is before sleeping. All nights I like to watch a movie resting on the bed with arms raised holding the iphone. With 14 pro max (and silicone or leather case) this is uncomfortable and after some minutes I start to thing again in the content of this thread.

The only tech products that I’ve bought since 2006 are from Apple and because of its ecosystem I’m not going to change but, some things could be changed with customer in mind…

Why they don’t release an iphone 14 pro max made with aluminum and reduce weight and cost? Give both options to users like in apple watch. In this case we would see how many people really prefer more weight in their devices because of posher materials…

I went to the Apple Store yesterday and tried the iPhone 14 Pro and Max. I’ll be cancelling my Max order. Just going to keep my 12. They are so big and heavy and the camera bump is absurd. They are horribly designed at this point. It’s clear that Apple just doesn’t have that Steve Job Product Master anymore.

I think the era of “form over function” has over. Apple now focused more on function (probably after Jony Ive left). New iPhone and MacBook is thicker. More ports and so on.

What I think they should do is start offering a range of options regarding the materials used in the phone, like they do on Apple Watch.

Give us the option of buying a Pro with either an aluminium body or pay a bit more for the stainless steel.

Brilliant answer!!
