Maybe once apple is making their own modems we can see some significant energy reductions. I would def prefer a lighter phone. I think anybody arguing against the OPs argument (that heavy is a good characteristic) is just wrong. It’s not. It is what it is but that doesn’t make it good. Lighter is definitely better. So hopefully Apple is pouring money into This. Although I’d imagine the periscope lens will make the phones even heavier!

My 13PM is so heavy my shorts sometimes start falling down if it’s in my pocket! Haha. Ridiculous! It’s like a brick!

If only we can have a larger display, without the larger physical phone size.

I wonder if this is where the Apple AR glasses might come in. The phone can be the AR anchor, and the glasses supplement additional content around it. Making a 6.2” display look like 7”, for example.

Similar to how you’d imagine the hand terminals in The Expanse holographically project content outside the borders of its glass.

Properly made AR glasses should make phone size irrelevant. Phone could be somewhere in the bag or pocket entire time. And humans would go through the day without looking down at a screen or monitor, freeing time for something better. Until that happens, I want my iPhone to be light. Heh, 12 mini is too heavy!

Now that we have magsafe, do we really need a full glass back? Maybe they can trim down the amount of glass. I'm not sure Apple would ever have a non-uniform back, but that might be the next evolution of the camera bump. A new way of hiding it, by intentionally making the back look like multiple panels.
I always thought they should just put a big glass apple on the back and make that the wireless charger. Titanium would be good to help reduce weight too

The iPhone 14 Pro weighs 7.27oz with its stainless steel frame, while the 14 weighs just 6.07 with an aluminum frame.

The BlackBerry Z10 used a magnesium alloy frame that was plenty tough. If Apple made a non Pro 15 (either aluminum or magnesium alloy frame) with a 2x zoom camera, I would drop the Pro like the hot (heavy) potato that it is.

What’s the real weight of a 14 PM and P with the Apple silicon case? Actual measured weights.

I can see the argument for someone with disabilities for pain. But for a normal person, how much of a problem can the weight on the Pro be? I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I'm a rather small and skinny person that doesn't go to the GYM with fewer muscles than I should ideally have, especially in my arms and upper body. Still I can't say that I have any difficulties with the weight of the phone. I use it plenty while laying on the couch or while laying in bed and it's not a problem. The overall weight makes it feel more premium compared to when I was using the iPhone 8 Plus which was noticeable lighter if my memory serves me right. I'm not using it caseless, currently, I have the Apple Leather Case while I wait for my Bullstrap Leather case to arrive.

With that being said, I don't really see much value in polished stainless steel on the phone. When using the phone outside the case the steel becomes a fingerprint magnet and stainless steel is so easy to scratch. I had one generation of Apple Watch in stainless steel and I preferred the added heft/weight, but the stainless steel looked terrible very quickly. Luckily you can "fix" the problem by polishing the steel. But it will get scratched shortly after so I ended up polishing it for resell value more than anything else. I much prefer the finish of the aluminium and titanium watches, but the low weight makes them feel less premium.

I would prefer aluminium over polished stainless steel if I was going commando with my phone as that stainless steel would end up looking pretty bad very quickly. But Apple has made it impossible to enjoy the phone without a case due to the camera bump. It becomes annoying using the phone without the case when it's not remotely close to being capable of laying flat on the table.

My 14PM with an Apple leather case is 278 grams.
Thanks for the reply, 40g for the case. That seems heavy, is it because of MagSafe? Is there a metal plate inside the case perhaps, do you know if 3rd party cases are lighter if I don’t need MagSafe? Would the silicon case be lighter than the leather?

I actually like the relative heaviness of the pro models. Gives it a more premium feel which is consistent with the line itself.

I’d love for Apple to innovate a way to make phones smaller instead of bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger. That would help with weight. 😆
