I saw a thread on this a few months ago, but I can't find it... so...

When is it safe to plug in a monitor or remove one? Only when the computer is off, or can I put the computer into sleep mode and then do it? Is running in clamshell mode (or whatever mode it is when I have an external keyboard and mouse and just close the lid on my computer) really that bad for the computer and heat distribution?

To my knowledge, you can do this anytime you want...I don't think there's any difference. I've always just plugged external monitors right into my PB while it was up and running. Hope I'm not doing something wrong...:(

i don't believe there's any problem plugging them in any time, but would likewise recommend turning them off first. Any definitely do so before disconnecting the power cable, to avoid shorting and power spiking. Probably best also to have the power cable connected before connecting to the mac, for earthing.
