Hello everybody,
I am a long term PC user in IT industry and have been thinking about switching for some time. I was wondering if anybody heard any rumor about MBP 17" getting a 1920X1200 upgrade.

I have seen a thread DIY upgrade looks little risky for me. Although I am still on the dark side I have seen the light and will convert as soon as screen upgrade becomes real hoping that happens in couple months. :)

Thanks

Not gonna happen because that would debauch Apple's Think Different mantra.

kalayci the screen resolution is currently this way because Apple does not want the screen resolution to deviate from 100 dpi (IRRC). Wait for Leopard to be released, that new upgrade promises resolution independence and hence opens the possibility of high resolution displays.

akadmon, if Apple truly thinks different they should deviate where it counts, such as producing good quality products for less money rather than doing what everyone has been doing and producing junk for more money.

You crack me up!

I will note that I too would love to see a big addition to the MBP line, though I recognize the wonderful machine we currently enjoy. My hope is for some big changes by summer.

I used to think that resolution would be so needed and why would I want anything less... Now that I have bit the bullet and bought the MBP I realized how I can't read anything on the screen from very far away... When It is sitting on my desk I find I really need to zoom in or squint a lot of the time (when it is websites) hope its not my eyes.

What are you talking about "not gonna happen"? It's GONNA HAPPEN, maybe not yet but it has to eventually. If not we would still have the same old low res screens the first powerbooks had. Or worse.

And if it doesn't happen, it surely wouldn't be because apple "thinks different".
