Hi all,

Argh.... trying to set up MacBook for family calls over festive break

Was hoping for calls over Skype.

Skype is not in the App Store.
Google search is a bit of a dead end on this.

Q1) Anyone know when Skype is coming out for M1 Macs?

Q2) Is Microsoft playing around, to promote its own platform during these lockdown times?
I.e. we should not expect this app on the M1 Macs anytime soon?
Not impressed :(

Regards
Martin

At work, we use Skype but have transitioned to webex teams. The IT department told us that Microsoft is getting rid of Skype. It’s supposed to be turned off in January (at least at our company)

Found a direct download link in literally 5 seconds on Google. Not every application is on the Mac app store (Zoom, for example).

It will run just fine on your M1 Mac through Rosetta.

That is Skype for Business they are talking about (Microsoft is replacing it with Microsoft Teams), I haven't heard any plans to get rid of normal Skype.

Hi V,

That's hilarious! ?

I need to sharpen up my google search wordings

I typed in "When is Skype coming out for M1 MacBooks?" and the google listing disappeared down a rabbit hole

The architecture doesn't really matter that much, Skype on macOS is not even a native app, it's Electron (essentially an instance of Chrome running a web app). So it's not like they care about performance at all.
