when should one get his first laptop

Anytime you have the cash and have a need for one.. Laptops are quickly replacing the desktop for lots of users. This may not be true to harder core users, who have laptop and desktops or any combo of more then one puter. But either way, if you need one get one!
 
First laptop?

1. When a desktop just won't cut it.
2. When you have the money.
2. When you have a lot of traveling to do.

I agree. If you think you could use the portability + power then I think vicious7 has it right.

I use mine everywhere and it is an invaluable tool. There are still times though when pen and paper beat a computer, though.
 
When one can afford it? My first computer where the SVI-728 paid with coins in a plastic bag ... I where like 8-9 year old or something I think, maybe earlier :D

My first laptop haven't come yet and I'm 28 =P, but this time I could afford it. I just hate that it's not speced the way I wanted and I had to order a machine I don't like because I won't pay the redicilous price for 128MB more vram.
 
Is this for real?

Newbies and anyone that has registered in the past 6 months should be kept in one thread for their first 6 months. There they can ask all kinds of assine questions, babble till they are blue in the face, brag about the fact they ordered something, brag about they received something, and complain about something being wrong with their purchase.:rolleyes:

I bought my first laptop when I left home to go to University (age 18).

It was a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo range. It worked quite well for the first year, and a bit less well in the second year... It broke completed at the end of its second year and was out of warranty.

I owned a third gen iPod and figured it would be neat to try out an Apple computer too so I bought an iBook G4 with Edu discount. Never had a fault with it to this day. I guess that is one of the bonuses in buying a last-gen piece of hardware.

Anyhow I pretty much recommend one to any 18 year old who is planning on going to Uni/College. Especially with wifi available around campuses everywhere these days. I never actually used mine in lectures but I took it down to the library to work on every day. Having a portabile essay writing computer between home and the library is in my opinion VERY important.

Thanks for that immensly brilliant suggestion, means I can revisit my childhood once again, goo goo ga ga apple mac goo goo ga :rolleyes:
 
for me- When Apple spend some of those billion dollar profits an offer us an option of a much higher resolution display for the 15" MBP and 2 eSATA ports an one more USB2 port.
