For crying out loud, enough already, stupid record labels! Get on iTunes Plus!

I would buy from Amazon, but buying MP3 format, when AAC technology is available, really irks me. I actually sent an email to Amazon music, innocently asking "Is there any chance you will sell music in AAC format? It provides a better-sounding music file at the same bitrate and file size." Their response: no.

And I'm not buying DRM music anymore. I bought a few random items in the past, but now am only buying CDs or iTunes Plus.

I'll only start buying when and if they go to (Apple) lossless. Until then I sticking to CD's.

I have started using Amazon, I used to buy from iTunes all the time. I am tired of the DRM, I like to sync my songs to anything I want. Plus I can make mp3 CD's for my truck too.

I simply refuse to get buttf..... just because I'm not living in the US. If the music companies are satisfied with 89/99 cents pr. songs from Americans this is what they will get from me as well - or nothing at all!

I've begun visiting piratebay.org from time to time to stock up. Even though I had decided to go 100% legit. I've then purchased this stolen music as it has become available without DRM, but the pace is slow.
 
I think the answer is: When iTunes' market share is a lot lower than it is now.

Apple shouldn't care too much, they will sell more iPods anyway if there is less DRM out there on other online music stores.

Market share doesn't have a lot to do with it. It is up to the labels, and less market share would give them less reason to go DRM free on iTunes.

Remember, SJ wants DRM-free tracks.
 
Sony DRM free 320kbps

Hi there,

Have been wondering (and asking) the same question for a while too. iTunes is so easy to use but the lack of DRM-free tracks and only 128kbps on the DRM ones is REALLY discouraging me from purchasing.

Got a $20 vouchure for a new Sony run website recently. All tracks (there's not a lot on there yet so they are probably still testing the water) are DRM free and 320 kbps. Wow! Sound great!

They are supposed to start selling top ups via credit card in November.

Now if Sony would only let Apple do the same, we could all be happy.

I'm amazed at how many peer-to-peer files are out there in 320kbps or FLAC format. If only the record companies realised by NOT playing our game they were missing out on real sales...

but I guess they still have their heads up their ... bottoms.

And they don't want Apple getting any bigger or more powerful :)

If Apple get any more money in the bank, they'll be able to buy those record companies without blinking. Hmmm, now there's an idea :)

Are there anti-competitive laws in the US that could be used to stop record companies offering DRM free tracks through other outlets (such as Amazon) and not offering them to Apple as well?

Come on, let's push hard to get DRM free as a BIG issue. I want my music on iTunes and I want it DRM free (who can set us up a petition???)

The case in a nuttshell. Apple grew the online music market for the label companies in a time where they themselves did not believe in the concept. Now that apple has more than proved the concept, the music companies are afraid that apple will become to dominant. Tough!

Perhaps. But perhaps Apple should think more long term instead and team up with all those disgruntled artists that want the rights to their music back and more royalty while they are at it. Perhaps a combination of this to get of the ground.

Apple should go directly to the source and make a 30/70 deal (of free for all) as with the developers in the app store. Of course, there's the issue of marketing and stuff but perhaps this is what features like genius is really about!
