As many have noticed, nothing has changed within the storage space, some apps have even gotten larger.

Will iOS 9.1 beta 2 feature it? Is there any possibility? I've haven't seen any big news on this.

I think it is now up to developers to make their apps "thin capable". Apple has done its part.

Pretty sure the apps themselves need to support it. So that only pieces specific to your device are downloaded (ie no iPad resolution icons/images are included on a iPhone install.)

I have seen a possible app thinning scenario recently. A user with iOS 8.4 has 36MB downloads for an app, while I have 21MB downloads for that app.
I run iOS 9.1 beta 1.

So the apps themselves or the total size that includes the data associated with the apps?

I guess this is only for apps stored in App Store. If developers request downloads after installing apps (which is very common for Japanese games), then those downloads will not be affected by app thinning technology.

I wonder, if the app downloaded and stored in our iTunes library are still device insensitive, or device independent? I mean, if I can install an app optimised for iPad and iPhone from iTunes, on iPhone and iPad without downloading different app package?

What's more, if this implementation is only for iOS, but not for desktop iTunes?

Can you tell us the name of this app? Thanks.

Garageband from Apple also grown from 720MB to 732MB.

That’s because GarageBand hasn’t been updated yet. App thinning comprises two important parts: app slicing and on-demand resources. On-demand resources need to be implemented in the app itself, so they have to be updated for iOS 9 specifically. App slicing is something Xcode does almost automatically, provided developers use the right Xcode functions as Apple has been suggesting since iOS 7. In that case they only need to recompile their apps with Xcode 7 and submit them to the App Store. That’s all. Basically, every app that has been released since the release of iOS 9 will likely have been compiled with Xcode 7 and will thus benefit from this. Maybe not to the fullest extent.

I think, this should apply to all apps installed on your device running iOS 9, not solely limited to one app.
I only see this app having such, uh, effect for now.
