So I really like the new interface and numerous improvements in categorization, search etc. on Apple Music in iOS 14. Really like the favourite playlists by year all the way back to 2015 (I was an early adopter) as well.

However, this is not the case with Apple Music on my iMac in the Catalina Music app which still has the old interface and features. Apple Music on the web looks like iOS 14. Is this something I'll have to get with Big Sur as I am not sure when or if I will upgrade - it seems to be an issue on Apple's end? Then again I am miffed with other issues (like bizarre language changes within AM) as I posted already.

Just a guess, but maybe it will happen when macOS Big Sur is released... since it's the macOS version that was announced at the same time as iOS 14...

Apple has released macOS and iOS versions annually, and the features seem to come to each with the new releases. Opting not to upgrade one or the other will cause the kind of interface differences that you are currently experiencing.

Thanks, I suspected as much though can't understand why the interface within AM can't be updated - if Safari can be updated separately why not Apple Music? Well, I guess I will wait and see how things go with Big Sur especially on older machines before taking the plunge.

I'm sure that it can be updated separately... but it's never been how Apple has done it. They rarely update their macOS apps (or even their iOS apps) apart from the OS update... AFAICT, Safari is the exception/anomaly.
