When will be the next new design for the IMACS?

and how often do they change the design?

What were the month/year dates releases for the changes of the external designed that happened for the IMACS (or Apple PC/Macintosh)

Thanks in advance to those that produce nice simple answer to my questions....or other useful info.

Another thread about this?

If you simply search through the forum you will know that this keeps getting asked, repeatedly.

The iMacs were just updated, why bother asking at this point?

Look at MacTracker or www.everymac.com to see how often Apple updates the design and specs.
A new design is currently not expected in this year, but we never know, as Apple is secretive about their roadmap. The current design is hardly two years old, even though it is a modification of an almost four year old design. But as Apple has currently almost all of their products to use the same materials and speak the same design language, it will take a while before a new design arrives.

Also take a look at MRoogle to look for similar threads.

the design used now (since late 2009) is not that old. It was quite a big change IMO from the previous design that was used from 2007 - 2009

As a new external design hasnt taken place, and if it did take place next year or so. you will be gutted as you would feel you have an old fashioned IMAC.

I would like to buy an IMAC at least it looks good for years to come.

thanks...precise info i was looking for...

others didnt seem to get the q i was asking...

i reckon by next year 2012 they will have bigger screen IMACS then 27" maybe 30" as in 2008 they moved from 24" biggest size to 27" their biggest screen size.

It's iMac, not IMAC. Lower-case i, capital M, lower-case a to the c. iMac.

You will always be gutted when making a technology purchase. In fact, as soon as you make the purchase, it's all ready obsolete. I suppose that the people who purchased the design iteration of the IMAC, as you put it, in 2009 when it was first released, were gutted then too right? Hmmm, a year and a half after I suppose that all those people have an old fashioned IMAC after all.

I think you just understand the replies you were getting. It's called cognitive dissonance.

You should have looked through the forum before starting a thread that has been discussed to death.

I reckon that you're just speculating.

Based on their history, Apple uses updates the iMac's design every 4 years.
I would say it wouldn't be until 2013 until you see a change in the iMac's design, and it would be ever so slightly different.

The current design is beautiful IMO, I don't want to see them change it, unless they can pull off something better than the current design.

No, I would not be gutted if I had an old fashioned iMac because I am not 12 years old. The machine I buy today will continue to look good no matter what new design comes out and will not automatically become ugly and will allow me to get on with my work. If I was 12, then maybe I could understand your point.

they can Thinner screen. Bigger screens.
Retina display sharper more pixels.

Irrelevant. Nothing but pure speculation.

You know something, I think that should march down to 1 Infinite Loop and tell them how to design their products and how often they should update that design. In fact, I think that you should replace Jonny Ive because you have all the answers.

The screen is already really thin. I disassembled a 2007 Aluminium iMac just recently and was surprised about the thinness of the actual display panel. It was less than 1cm thick.
Retina displays in that size are still far off as economically viable option, unless you want an iMac costing 10000 USD.
Bigger might be an option, as they were rumours about a 30" iMac. Maybe you can find them. I can't.

Thinner screen? Not for the next few years.

Bigger screens? 27" isn't big enough?

Retina displays? Very likely in the future, BUT, Apple would have to come up with a graphics card powerful enough to power a 3200x3200 screen

The design will only be changed for the iMac if apple need to do it for brand consistency, ie. To match everything else (like it does now)

Apple are the kings of consistency across their products, everything has a similar image and matches so you know it's apple when you look at it.

As soon as apple changes the image of a significant product only then will we know that a new design/look is coming for the iMacs/MacBooks etc.
