When will new features comes to Apple Maps?

It doesn’t feel like much focus is on Maps and it definitely needs a bit of a kick. When I’m in the USA it’s my preferred service as I find the guidance much clearer than, say, Google Maps. But in the UK it’s not so hot.

Also, I’m pretty sure Apple were capturing street level mapping but It’s all gone quiet on that front. Was it for the autonomous driving project or to add into Maps?

I thought Apple was going with a more modular approach with core app updates.

The features the maps app need to compete are pretty clear. I feel like there’s some low hanging fruit that can be picked easily.

Not sure what the hold up is.

I just wish they would be more proactive on getting their maps correct. I still can't update my new home address.

It just feels soooo slow to see progress. Why do they have to wait for iOS updates? Just crack on and keep making it better!

The data they’re using still sucks too — barely anybody in the UK uses Yelp. Why not integrate more with Foursquare or others, for example. And when I click details of somewhere I don’t want to have to be directed to a webpage (?!) or be forced to use the Yelp app — build it into Maps for a seamless experience!

Yes it’s nice they’re obsessed with adding ‘transit’ information but, come on, it’s hardly revolutionary. Citymapper does it so much better.

Surely these are things they’re working on. At least I hope so. The updates are so few and far between I’m losing hope that there’s anybody actually working on it!

From what I'm learning about the "waterfall" approach vs "agile" approach to software development I feel like Apple is using the waterfall approach which as far as I know is why they don't have modular or small updates to core apps and wait until the entire OS is ready to be released.

While not a true feature in Apple Maps here is proof Apple is updating and working on Apple Maps. Here is CarPlay and this lane guidance was just added this week. It is only a 2 lane in direction road. Both lanes are correct but still getting detailed lane guidance. I see this in lots of smaller roads now. Apple is really improving the Maps. Are other seeing this much detail being added?

Turning lanes has definitely been there for the last few betas for sure and has been in google maps for a long time.

For me personally I wish I could send an ETA notification like you can with waze.

Line Guidance was introduced in iOS 11 and was first available in about the 2ed or 3ed beta in July. Here is a screen shoot (pic 1) I took on July 4th (on the way to the Peachtree 10K) on I285 (my first time seeing it). However it was ONLY AVAILABLE on Interstates until recently. Line Guidance is being added dynamically (backend and NOT in beta builds) to more and more roads (NOT Interstates). Here is one that was added about 2 weeks ago (pic 2) and the one I posted above was just added last week. My post is about all the new Lane Guidance to (smaller/non Interstate) roads that are being added each week.

I haven't seen lane guidance in POLAND AT ALL.

I wonder this too. I read that they’ve captured street view like imagery but that seems to take a very long time. But I have my hope here.
Ps. Autonomous car can only be tested in some place I think. Since it’s not legally to test everywhere yet.

FWIW I spotted 2 Apple Maps Vans in my area capturing street view imagery a couple weeks ago. I'm in a smaller town so I'd imagine they are getting pretty close to having most of the USA captured by now.

I noticed this too, and it’s a great. It’s sad when Apple Maps have been more accurate then the GPS that is in my car.

There should be some tools which would allow us to add corrections.

Right now, we don't even have any tickets you can track.

They only push out notifications for POIs. But POIs is actually less important then real mapping.
If I have a business card and I know the address, for example: Kazimierza Wołodyjowskiego 80, I cannot type it in, because Apple doesn't have this address, nor does it know where is it,

I end up with some results from the United States whereas I'm in Poland.

They should also hire more cars. Solid backbone (maps) are necessary for many apps, Uber, etc. which can't change maps because Apple Maps are too undependable.

They can't focus only on America since apps such as Uber are international companies and usually have similar code for all countries, I bet they wouldn't adjust maps to countries, case by case. They just have implemented better maps overall.

Similarly Pokemon GO. They just use Google Maps with some fancy custom-coloured API. Where are Apple Maps? Do they have great APIs for devs? Customizable? Webmaps? Not every iPhone owner has an iMac. Apple Maps (and Apple Music) should be also available ONLINE.

Linux users can't use Apple Music as well, and iTunes is such a pain in the a** that even Wine can't handle it.
