When will the iPhone be out?

I'm in the market for a cell phone, and I'd love an iPhone, especially if it supports cingular (so that I could have a family plan with my parents) and has some actual apple-ish features, not just an apple logo and mobile iTunes.

It will be released when Softbank (recent purchasers of Vodafone Japan) take over 100% of the ops of Vodafone this fall. It is going to be one of their prize products. By aligning with Apple, they are going for brand recognition which Japanese love.

In my opinion it will be released in Japan first and then available in other countries. But you see, the Japanese cellphone network can handle high speed everything now and is 100% digital (no matter where you are and who you are).

Apple can come out with an iPhone any time they like, if they set themselves up as an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), like ESPN has done. I'm sure there are tons of Macniacs who won't mind spending $80 or $90 a month (just for service) to have an iPhone and be on Apple's iNetwork.

You know...you could guess 'By Next Fall' and still be right if it came out tomorrow....


But in all honesty, Apple will be announcing a special event for the phone (if they ever release it), so your best bet is sometime this fall (when most of their special events take place), MWSF, or next fall...

If the rumors are corect and the iphone has some sort of ichat integration it will be released before Leopard gets released. I hope its a global release, GSM would be the best bet.

I'm thinking it will be before the Christmas season... and if not, then who knows?

If apple does decide to release it, I'd say they would be dumb not to have it be quad band GSM. Releasing it under their own proprietary network would be a joke.
