4k mini LED screen?
apple pencil 3?
portrait and landscape mode webcam for better video chat angle?

Likely early 2021.
4k mini LED screen?
No rumors or leaks about 4K so far. Mini-LED is likely.
apple pencil 3?
Also no rumors or leaks about a 3rd generation Apple Pencil. Seems unlikely if you consider how the current Apple Pencil is already pretty great.
portrait and landscape mode webcam for better video chat angle?
There probably wont be two cameras for both orientations. That would drive up the price.

From what I have been reading, it’s more likely to see the light of day either in mid 2021 or fall 2021.

Mini LED is more likely for the 12” model.

The Pencil will probably be the same.

Biggest update will be the A14X.

All in all, likely to be a minor update (unless the Mini LED speculation turns out to be true for the 11”).

If the Pro has an A14X chip, I highly doubt it’ll be out as late as the fall of ‘21. By then, everyone would hope and expect an A15X chip. I believe most rumors suggest it’ll be out in the first half of ‘21.

Rumors do seem to neglect mentioning an 11” variant next year, but hopefully that doesn’t mean the only new Pro next year is a 12.9” version. Mini LED is supposedly going to be applied to all the iPads next year, including the base iPad and Mini.

Obviously the Pros will carry at a bare minimum the features that are found on the 2020 Pros. It’s hard to say what else will be new to them. I suppose the rumors will pick up soon, so that’s always fun to read about. Looking forward to a few surprises beyond a new screen tech and new chip.

I personally think we will get a minor A14X refresh in March 2021 on both the 11 and 12.9 versions to have more of an edge over the air.

Then I think a miniLED A15X 12.9 will be launched in October 2021 for more $$$ and sold alongside the ones released in March 2021, similar to when they introduced retina to the MacBook Pro.

But with the pandemic and likely further factory shut downs, lockdowns across the globe, I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see any refresh at all until late 2021.

I think all the leaks we know have been said so far.
With that said, I can see Apple keeping the same body for another generation until moving to a new one in 2022. With tech maturation, it seems that Apple is moving beyond 2 generations of the same body and now moving to 3 generations.
I can’t imagine the iPhone just getting the iPad Pro design and now the next iPad Pro ditching the design. That’s why I think there won’t be an Apple Pencil 3.

Well, didn’t Apple do something like that when moving from the 10.5 Pro to the 2018 11” Pro? Not saying they will do it again, but....

I would like to see a SS finish on the iPP in the future and the frosted glass back like the iPhone, while keep the air with Aluminium.

So I have an iPad Air 2 was debating between the iPad Air 4 and the 2020/2021 iPad Pro on another thread, and I got talked into going for the iPad Pro for the ProMotion display, 4 speakers and FaceID. I won't use the Apple Pencil, won't do any work/processing, and don't care for the camera on an iPad. I don't need to upgrade right at this moment, so if the next iPad Pro does come out next March then I am okay with waiting just a few more months to hopefully get the latest and greatest and hopefully with new display too. But if the next iPad Pro doesn't come until later in the year next year, or if there is a bigger price increase, then I think I will just bite the bullet and get the upgrade now.

Now question is, how certain that we will see the 2021 iPad Pro in March? Looking at the history, Apple seems to update the iPad Pro on a 15-18month cycle:
First Gen iPad Pro (9.7inch): Mar31, 2016
Second Gen iPad Pros: Jun13, 2017 (1yr 2.5months)
Third Gen iPad Pros: Nov07, 2018 (1yr 5months)
Fourth Gen iPad Pros: Mar31, 2018 (1yr5months)

Im going to venture a guess and say while the A14 will be a faster chip the A12Z still has more cores and 6Gigs of Ram compaired to the Air 4 4Gigs... So the A12 will be more powerful. That said, i dont realistically see them putting out a new Ipad until March at the earliest but more likely June-Fall 2021 with the 18month cycle.

Here
Really the only leaks have been for 5G and mini LED on the 12.9” Pro (which I find distressing as an 11” prospective buyer). The A14X is just a given.

One reason I held off on the iPad Air was because of how good it is. Surely that means Apple has some improvements planned. Perhaps the A14X, miniLED, and 5G will be all, but I’d me disappointed if so.

I think we will see a refreshed 11” to 5G/A14X it’s a popular size, however I don’t think it will get miniLED in 2021

Another recent rumour has been an upgrade to 8GB of ram as well. May be important for some users.

for me, I see zero need to upgrade my 2018 pros. I’m not starved for storage, power is more than enough, I enjoy the Face ID and pencil 2, and 120HZ I cannot give up. I don’t think a design change is in the cards for the next gen. I am ok with this, as myself and others spent a lot of money for our Pros in 2018, and it would be unfortunate for them to feel obsolete in a short few years. If anything it feels like a great investment today

for my uses it’s beyond my needs if anything. I’m still excited to see the new products though as I always enjoy Apples product releases, even if I don’t upgrade them regularly.

Same here, always like to see which direction Apple are going with their products.

I think holding out for miniLED isn’t really worth it tbh, I have compared my iPP LCD screen with my iPhone XS OLED screen side by side and the difference isn’t night and day IMHO they really nailed their standard LCD screens, so miniLED won’t look all that much different. I don’t think this is going to be the same sort of advancement as what retina displays were in comparison to the screens previous to that.

Pretty much the only thing I have my eye on getting in 2021 is the Apple Watch 7, currently on the 4 and tend to upgrade every 3 years.

Thinking that miniLED is going to be a great alternative to OLED is a mistake. Mini LED seems like a transitional technology and I am not sure Apple investing in it is worth it. Existing Mini LED monitors are thick, power hungry and require active cooling. I remain skeptical that they will be able to get this in any iPad next year.

Also, the lower amount of LEDs they would need to use to reduce heat and power requirements would likely make backlight blooming noticeable. White text on a black background would look terrible and would be jarring when that text scrolls or moves around as different LEDs kick on and off.

Even that A14x...its benefits will probably be only seen under the most demanding of circumstances / use cases. As it is, iPads have generally been over powered and under utilised.

Oh, i agree. iPad is one, powerfull "toy". I also think it's the best Apple product, competition is wayyyy behind. You can get a great, windows computer/laptop. You can get a great Android phone. There are some really nice smart watches out there and some great sounding ear buds/headphones. But when it comes to tablets, iPad is the KING of them all.
